How to advertise on Instagram: three routes
The first route is the Boost button under a post or Reel inside the app. It is quick and works when you want a strong post to reach more people: a Tashkent restaurant promoting a set menu, a clothing shop showing a new collection. There are few settings, which is both the appeal and the limit, because you also get less control over the outcome.
The second route is Meta's ad account, Ads Manager. You choose the campaign goal, audience, placements and format, and you can run several ads side by side to compare them. This is the one you need if you want messages in Direct, visits to a Telegram bot or a website, and a clear cost for each enquiry.
The third route is paid placements with bloggers and popular local pages. You pay for one author's relationship with their audience rather than for targeting. It combines well with targeted ads, but the results are harder to measure precisely.
What to prepare before launch
Ads send people to your profile, not into a void. If it shows three posts from last year, no prices and no clear way to get in touch, even good traffic will leave. That is why account management and advertising belong to one task rather than two separate projects.
- A professional (business) account connected to a Facebook Page.
- An ad account and a working payment method. Check this ahead of time, not on the day of your promotion.
- A clear bio: what you sell, which city you serve, how to contact you.
- Up-to-date Highlights, examples of your work or products, and customer reviews.
- One clear destination for the ad: Direct, Telegram, a website or a phone call.
- Event tracking on your website (a pixel) if traffic goes there.
Goals and metrics: how to tell whether it works
The goal comes from your business, not from the platform: a lead, a message in Direct, a call, a follow, a sale. For a beauty salon in Samarkand that means bookings; for an online shop it means orders paid through Click or Payme. Reach and likes feel good but do not bring in money on their own.
Agree on metrics in advance: cost per enquiry, the share of enquiries that turn into purchases, and revenue in soums for each soum spent. You do not need a complicated system. A simple sheet where a manager notes where each customer came from is enough. Without that, you cannot answer whether the advertising pays back.
Creative and audience
An ad is what a person sees in the first seconds: the cover, the opening of the video, a short line of text. Test different offers and formats, such as Reels, Stories and the feed. The same offer presented differently can perform very differently.
For a local business, the audience is usually set by city or district, age and interests. Start with a small test and do not put the whole budget into one campaign. Think about language too. Some customers will respond better to Russian and others to Uzbek, and you can only find out by testing.
Common mistakes
Most first launches fail for the same few reasons.
- Promoting everything with no single clear goal.
- Sending people to a profile without prices, contacts or fresh content.
- Changing settings every day and never waiting for data.
- Answering Direct slowly, so the lead goes cold within hours.
- Counting likes instead of enquiries and sales.
- Not recording where each customer came from.
When to bring in a specialist
You can launch one ad yourself. But if advertising has to work all the time, you need regular content, tests, reports and a quick reaction to the numbers. In Tashkent you can choose between freelancers, small teams and agencies. The real difference is whether they report in figures or in impressions.
At markdev we run Instagram for businesses in Uzbekistan: we put the account in order, set up the ads and show results in clear metrics, without inflated promises. If you would like to talk through your own case, leave a request and we will work out where it makes sense to begin.
FAQ
Can I advertise on Instagram without an ad account?
Yes, through the Boost button under a post. The settings are limited, though, so for leads and tracking their cost it is better to use Ads Manager.
Do I need a business account to run ads?
For the full range of options you need a professional account, usually connected to a Facebook Page. It also unlocks profile insights.
Which is better: targeted ads or a blogger?
They are different tools. Targeted ads give a controllable, measurable flow, while a blogger brings the trust of a specific audience. Many businesses test both and compare the cost per enquiry.
How do I know the ads are paying off?
Compare the revenue from customers who came through ads with the cost of the ads and of handling the leads. For that you need at least a simple record of the source of each enquiry.
