What ASO is and how it differs from SEO
People reach an app in three ways: store search, recommendations and collections, or an outside link from Instagram, a Telegram channel or a website. ASO drives the first, and the other two support it. That makes it ongoing work on your storefront, not a one-time text edit.
Stores favor apps that match the query and that people install and keep. Relevance comes from the title, subtitle or short description, and keywords. Quality shows in install trends, rating, reviews, retention and stability. A delivery app that crashes at the Click or Payme payment step will lose ground no matter how clever its keywords are.
Title, subtitle and keywords
The title is the strongest text signal in both stores. Combine your brand with the main function, such as “Brand — grocery delivery”. Space is limited, so every word has to earn its place. Stuffing the title with queries can break store rules and get an update rejected.
The App Store has a subtitle and a hidden keyword field that users never see. Put phrases there that did not fit in the title and subtitle, without repeating words. Google Play has no keyword field: its algorithm reads the title, short description and full description. So write the full description for people, with the right queries woven in naturally.
To collect queries, look at store search suggestions, competitor titles and descriptions, and the way reviewers describe the task in their own words. In Uzbekistan, collect both Russian and Uzbek variants. Field limits and text rules change from time to time, so check the current developer documentation.
Description, icon and screenshots
The first lines of the description appear before anyone taps “more”, so use them to say what the app does and what problem it solves. The rest of the text is there to convince, not only to catch search.
The icon is the first thing seen in results. It should stay recognizable at a small size and stand apart from its neighbors. Screenshots work better as frames with a short benefit caption, like “Order in a minute”, than as bare interface shots. The first two get the most attention, so show your main value there. A short video helps with complex flows. These elements mostly affect the share of visitors who install, not the ranking directly, but better conversion helps visibility too.
- Opening lines: what the app does and for whom
- Key features as a short list
- Situations where it is useful
- Support contacts and what changed in the latest update
- Nothing the app cannot actually do
Ratings and reviews
Rating and review count weigh heavily on the decision, especially in crowded categories such as delivery, taxi, banking and marketplaces.
- Ask for a rating after a success, such as a completed order, not at first launch
- Use the stores’ official rating prompts
- Reply to reviews, especially complaints, and say when a bug is fixed
- Treat reviews as free research into product weak spots
- Never buy ratings: stores remove them and may penalize your developer account
Localizing for Russian and Uzbek users
If your app supports both languages, prepare a separate store page for each. Translate the screenshot captions as well as the description. Store search takes the user’s language and region into account, so a localized page earns more impressions on the market you care about. Do not promise a language the app lacks; it leads straight to bad reviews.
Connecting the store page with your website
App pages are indexed by Google and can appear in regular results. A dedicated site or landing page with features, how-to guides, answers to common questions and direct links to both stores brings in search traffic and covers brand queries. Someone searching your app’s name should see both the site and the store page. Links from your Instagram profile and Telegram channel close the loop.
Organic traffic to that site comes from classic SEO, and markdev provides SEO optimisation of websites in Uzbekistan, which strengthens the web side around your app.
Measuring results and knowing the limits
Developer consoles in both stores show page views, taps, installs and traffic sources: search, collections, external links. Change one element at a time and compare. Google Play offers store listing experiments, and the App Store has tools for testing variants too.
ASO cannot rescue a weak product. If users delete the app after the first launch or rate it low because of bugs, no storefront polish will hold your position. Stability and usefulness come first, packaging second. FAQ
What does ASO stand for?
App Store Optimization: improving how your app page appears in store search and how well it turns visitors into installs.
Do keywords work the same way in Google Play and the App Store?
No. The App Store has a hidden keyword field, while Google Play reads the title and the short and full descriptions.
Should I make separate Russian and Uzbek store pages?
Yes, if the app supports both languages. Localize the screenshot captions too, not only the description.
Is it safe to buy reviews to raise a rating?
No. Stores remove fake ratings and can penalize developers. Ask satisfied users at the right moment and respond to complaints instead.
