Why running a page is not a strategy
A familiar pattern in Tashkent: a shop owner hires someone to run the page, and for six months it fills up with product photos, discounts and holiday greetings. Followers grow, but few people write in direct messages. The problem is rarely the person doing the work. Nobody decided what job the content should do.
A strategy is a document of a few pages. It records the goal, the audience, the topics, the formats, the tone rules and the way you measure results. The content calendar comes after it, not before.
Start with a goal you can check
Pick one or two jobs for your content. A goal like “raise awareness” cannot be verified, so it guides nothing. Better examples:
- customers stop asking “where are you located” and “how do I order” in direct messages because the answer is already pinned
- a sales manager sends a link to an explainer instead of a half-hour chat
- someone spending a month choosing a clinic, school or workshop sees you at the moment of doubt
- buyers come back for a repeat order
Build topics from customer questions
You do not need to invent topics, because customers already supply them. Collect questions from administrators and sales staff, from Telegram and Instagram chats, from phone calls, from reviews on maps and from comments, including those under competitors’ posts. Industry chats are another good source.
Sort the questions by stage: someone who has just noticed a problem, someone comparing options, someone who already bought. People comparing options need work samples and honest answers about timing and payment. People who bought need care instructions and an easy way to reorder.
Topic pillars and formats in your content marketing strategy
Group the questions into three to five big themes. For a dental clinic that might be children’s treatment, fear of pain, prevention and life inside the clinic. For a fabric shop: choosing material for a task, calculating how much to buy, care, ready-made ideas. Every new idea should fit one of the pillars. If it does not, you probably do not need it.
Choose the format by what the topic needs. A complex explanation suits a carousel or a Reels video with subtitles. A quick answer fits Stories. Details and documents belong in a website article or a Telegram channel post. One expert answer can become a video, a carousel and several Stories. Two or three channels maintained regularly beat five handled at random. For many local businesses the core is Instagram plus Telegram, with ordering and payment handled by a bot, Click or Payme.
Language and brand voice
In Uzbekistan, language is part of the strategy. Decide whether you publish in Uzbek, Russian or both. If both, avoid word-for-word translation: audiences in the capital and in the regions react differently to tone, examples and the level of formality.
Write the rules down: how you address customers, which words you avoid, how you answer criticism in comments. It prevents arguments inside the team and makes your voice recognisable.
People, process and measuring results
List who proposes topics, who collects expert input, who writes and shoots, who checks facts and who replies to comments and direct messages. A doctor, craftsman or technologist rarely wants to write, so it is easier to record a voice note or a short interview and turn it into a post. Set frequency by real capacity: three strong posts a week that always go out beat daily posts that stop after a month. Leave room in the plan for timely items such as seasonal events, subscriber questions and company news.
Metrics should follow from the goal, not from what is easiest to count. To attract customers, watch messages after content and clicks from the profile link. For sales, check how often managers use the materials and whether deals close faster. For retention, look at repeat orders and replies to Stories. Reach and likes are a supporting signal, not the result. Review the strategy once a quarter: which topic brought the most enquiries, which format fell flat. Changing it more often is a mistake, because content needs time.
A simple final test: show the document to someone outside the project. If they can explain why you publish, for whom and how you will judge success, it is ready. If you would like to build it together and then hand Instagram management to a team, markdev can help you work through the task. Get in touch and we will talk through your business.
FAQ
How is a content strategy different from a content plan?
The strategy answers why, for whom and about what. The plan answers what, where and when. A plan is made monthly, while the strategy is reviewed about once a quarter.
How many channels should a small business run?
Start with two that you can keep up regularly, most often Instagram and Telegram. Add another only when the first two run steadily.
Which language should I publish in?
Follow your audience. If customers use both Uzbek and Russian, prepare adapted versions rather than literal translations, and start with the language most of your customers speak.
How do I measure results if sales happen in direct messages?
Note in each conversation where the person came from and which material they saw. Then count enquiries after publications and the share that reached an order.
