Content Update Guide: Refresh Instagram and Website Content

A content update means going back to material you have already published, such as website pages, Instagram posts, Highlights and your bio, and making it accurate and useful again. For many businesses in Tashkent and the regions, old content still brings in customers, but with mistakes: the price is wrong, the promotion ended, or the phone number in the caption goes unanswered.

Why update when you can publish something new

New posts and articles matter, but each one has to build attention from zero. An old website page is already indexed and may have links pointing to it. An old Instagram post is already being saved, shared and found by people who open your profile. Improving that material is often faster and cheaper than creating something equal from scratch.

There is also trust. A customer who sees a price in sums from three years ago, or a payment method that no longer works, will go to a competitor. Outdated content does more than sit idle: it fills your Direct and Telegram with avoidable questions.

What goes out of date fastest

The easiest place to start is facts that change without you noticing, or that you forgot to correct:

  • prices, price lists and instalment terms;
  • opening hours, branch address and landmarks;
  • payment options: Click, Payme, cash, card transfer;
  • delivery terms for Tashkent and other regions;
  • the range of products or services;
  • contacts: phone number, Telegram bot, the link in your bio;
  • promotions and seasonal offers that ended long ago.

Start with a short content audit

Do not try to rewrite everything at once. List your materials and mark which ones are actually useful. For the website, open Google Search Console and look for pages where impressions and clicks have dropped, and pages that already sit fairly close to the top of the results. A modest improvement on those often gives a visible effect.

For Instagram, check profile insights: which posts and Reels get saves, shares, profile visits and Direct messages. Also flag posts where customers keep asking the same question in the comments. That is a clear signal that the post lacks information.

What to change on your website

Begin with facts and dates, then move to structure. Add sections that answer questions customers really ask. You can find them in Search Console, in your sales chats and in comments. Sharpen the headline and first paragraph so the topic is clear at once. Add fresh photos, examples of your work, a comparison table and links to newer pages.

If a page gets many impressions but few clicks, rework its title and description in search results so they say plainly and honestly what a visitor will find inside.

Keep the page address. Changing it can cost you the links and history the page has gathered; if you must, set up a permanent 301 redirect. Do not remove sections that bring visitors, and do not change the page topic.

What to change on Instagram

You cannot rewrite a page on Instagram, but several tools do the same job:

  • captions: correct the price, terms and call to action;
  • pinned posts: keep the three most useful and current ones;
  • Highlights: remove finished promotions, refresh covers and order;
  • bio: what you do, your city, how to reach you, a working link;
  • a strong old post: turn it into a new Reels video or carousel;
  • comments: answer old questions and pin helpful replies.

Dates, weak material and a working rhythm

If a website page shows an update date, change it only after real edits. A new date without new content helps nobody. The same logic applies to Instagram: do not push old posts just to look active.

Material that is no longer needed and brings no value can be merged into a stronger piece or removed. On a website that means a redirect; on Instagram it means archiving the post. A quarterly review is enough: go through your list of pages and posts and decide for each one whether to update, merge, keep or remove it. A few weeks after the changes, compare impressions, clicks, saves and enquiries.

FAQ

How often should I update content?

A review once a quarter works well. Prices, hours and contact details should be fixed as soon as they change, without waiting for the next scheduled review.

Can I edit old Instagram posts?

Yes. You can correct the caption and pin important posts to your profile. If a post is badly outdated, it is better to publish a new one and archive the old one.

Should I change the date on a website page after every edit?

No. Update the date only after substantial changes such as new data, new sections or a reworked structure. Changing the date alone brings no benefit.

Is it better to update an old page or write a new one?

If the topic is the same, updating the existing page usually pays off more, because it already has history and links. A new page is for a new topic or a new search query.
