How to Drive Social Media Traffic to Your Website

To drive social media traffic to your website, you need more than a profile and a link. Instagram and TikTok try to keep people inside the app, and links only work in certain places. Many businesses in Tashkent and across Uzbekistan have both a website and active accounts, yet the two run separately: conversations happen in social media, the catalog sits on the site, and nothing connects them. Here is how to build that connection.

Why send people to the website at all

Social media is good for introductions, showing products and answering quick questions. A website does a different job: a full catalog with filters, delivery and payment terms, checkout through Click or Payme, company details and an address that build trust. It also belongs to you, while an account depends on the rules of the platform.

Not everything should be pushed to the site. If someone asks whether an item is in stock or what a simple product costs, a reply in Instagram Direct or Telegram is faster. Use the site when there is a lot of information, the choice is complicated, or an enquiry needs several fields.

How to drive social media traffic to your website: where to put links

Each platform handles links differently, so plan around its limits.

  • Instagram: the link in your profile (you can add more than one), link stickers in Stories, business profile buttons, and links sent in Direct. Links in post captions are not clickable, so say "link in bio".
  • Telegram: links in posts are active and you can add buttons under a post. It is the easiest platform for sending people to a site.
  • YouTube: the video description, a pinned comment and the channel About section.
  • TikTok: a profile link is not available to every account. If you do not have one, route viewers through Telegram or Instagram.

Content that makes people click

People click when a post starts something and the rest is on the site. A generic "visit our website" with no reason behind it rarely works.

These formats tend to earn the click:

  • One product in the post, the full catalog on the site.
  • A short project preview in the feed, a detailed case study on the blog.
  • A guide or checklist whose full version lives on the site.
  • A calculator or selector. A tile shop in Tashkent, for example, can offer a quick estimate of how much material a room needs.
  • Booking a consultation or event through an online form.
  • Price lists, terms and documents that are awkward to post as images.

The page people land on

Do not send everyone to the home page. Send them to the page that answers what the post promised. If a Story shows a new collection, link to that collection. If a post is about a service, link to that service page with an enquiry form.

Open it on a phone, because most visits from social media come from mobile devices. Slow loading, tiny buttons and pop-ups push people straight back to the app. If the site is hard to use on a smartphone, more traffic will not help; fix the site first, or rebuild it.

UTM tags and measuring results

Without tags, analytics lumps everything into "social" and you cannot tell what worked. Add a source (instagram, telegram), a medium (stories, post, bio) and a campaign name to each link. Keep one scheme for the whole team: lowercase only, identical names, a shared spreadsheet. Otherwise one source splits into several lines in your reports.

In Google Analytics or a similar tool, track:

  • visits from each network and each post;
  • time on site and pages viewed;
  • orders, enquiries and calls attributed to social media;
  • which formats produced the most clicks.

Common mistakes

If clicks are high but enquiries are low, the post probably promised one thing and the page shows another. Other frequent problems:

  • linking to the home page instead of a specific page;
  • a site that loads badly on phones;
  • no UTM tags, so nobody knows what brings customers;
  • every post pushes to the site even when people would rather message you;
  • the profile link leads to a promotion that ended weeks ago.

Make the link work both ways

Add links to your Instagram and Telegram channel on the site, plus a subscription option. A visitor who is not ready to buy today can follow you and come back later.

If you want your social accounts and website to work as one system, markdev can help map the customer path, set up tags and analytics, and build or rebuild the website itself. Tell us about your task and we will talk it through.

FAQ

Can I put a website link in an Instagram post caption?

Links in regular post captions are not clickable. Use the profile link, a link sticker in Stories, or send the address in Direct.

Which platform is best for sending traffic to a website?

Telegram is the most convenient because links in posts are active and you can add buttons. Still, choose based on where your audience spends time.

Why do I need UTM tags?

They show which network and which post a visitor came from and how many enquiries that visit produced. Without them you cannot tell which content to repeat.

What if people visit the site but do not leave enquiries?

Compare the promise of the post with the page content, check speed and usability on a phone, shorten the enquiry form, and make sure the link leads to the right section rather than the home page.
