The Instagram audience in Uzbekistan is not one group
The same app holds a student in Samarkand, a salon owner in Tashkent, parents choosing an after-school club, and someone in their forties browsing apartments. Their languages, habits and paths to purchase differ. If you don’t separate them, your ad is shown to everyone a little and convinces no one.
There is no reliable public breakdown of the audience by segment, and third-party reports age quickly and contradict each other. So it makes sense to rely on what you can check yourself.
Sizing an audience inside Ads Manager
The most accessible tool is Ads Manager itself. When you set up an ad set, it shows an estimated audience size for the parameters you chose. It is a model, not a census, but it is good enough to compare options against each other.
- Set a city, or a radius around your point of sale.
- Add age and language.
- Note the estimate, then add interests and compare.
- Record every variant in a simple table.
Four cuts that change the result
Location. A coffee shop in Chilanzar cares about a few kilometres around it, not the whole country. An online store with delivery cares about the cities a courier actually reaches. Tashkent and other large cities hold a significant share of active users, but regional audiences are noticeable too, just smaller.
Age. Don’t cut older groups out by habit. A clinic, a new-build apartment or a school for a child is often chosen by people over forty. Read the breakdown in your reports instead of trusting a stereotype.
Language. Interface language is a hint, not a verdict. Someone with a Russian interface may still prefer to read an ad in Uzbek. Make creatives in both languages and compare.
Interests. The list is the same as in other countries but less densely populated. Broad interests, or none at all, usually perform more steadily than an overlap of five narrow ones.
Warm audiences: the asset you build ahead of time
People who visited your profile, watched your Reels or wrote to you in Direct are worth more than any interest category. The size of that pool depends on how regularly you post and how cheaply you run video ads to cold audiences. Build it before your busy season, not a week before it.
Keep cold, warm and existing-customer groups in separate ad sets. Mix them and you won’t know what actually worked.
Building a buyer profile from real customers
Start with the people who already pay you.
- Ask customers at checkout or in your Telegram chat: age, district, language, how they found you.
- Open your account insights to see who follows you and who actually watches.
- Review age and gender breakdowns from past campaigns.
- Compare people who left a request with those who went on to pay through Click or Payme.
Testing assumptions, and when Instagram is not the answer
Launch two or three ad sets with identical creatives but different audience logic: broad, interest-based, and language-specific. After a few days, look beyond cost per lead to the breakdowns by age, gender and placement. A broad ad set often shows by itself who responds, and that becomes the basis for the next test.
If the creative is strong and the response is still weak, your customers may simply spend their time in Telegram, TikTok or YouTube. Then the problem is the platform, not the setup. Ask your customers and try a second channel with a small budget.
Mistakes that drain budget, and where to start
Five slips come up again and again.
- A narrow audience built from five overlapping interests, leaving the algorithm nothing to learn from.
- Targeting your followers’ age when a different segment is buying.
- One Russian-only creative for the whole country.
- Ignoring men in “female” niches, where they buy gifts.
- No separation between cold and warm audiences.
FAQ
Can I find the exact size of the Instagram audience in Uzbekistan?
There is no exact public figure for your segment. Ads Manager gives an estimate for the location, age, language and interests you select, which is enough to compare options.
Should I run ads in both Uzbek and Russian?
Often yes, especially outside Tashkent. Make Uzbek and Russian versions of the same creative and compare the response in your reports.
How do I know my customers aren’t on Instagram?
If a good creative and a sound setup still bring weak response, survey your customers and test Telegram, TikTok or YouTube with a small budget.
Are interests better than a broad audience?
A broad audience is usually steadier because the algorithm has room to choose. Treat interests as a hypothesis to test, not a given.
