Start with the job, not the content calendar
Most owners begin by asking what to post. A better first question is what the account is supposed to do for the company. The answer shapes how often you publish, which formats you use, how fast you reply in Direct and who on the team is responsible.
A beauty salon in Tashkent and a manufacturer of industrial equipment need very different accounts, even if both signed up on the same day. The salon gets bookings from it. The manufacturer mostly needs proof that the company is real and active.
Four jobs an Instagram account can do
In practice an account takes on one or several of these roles at once.
- Storefront. For many buyers the profile stands in for a website. They look at photos, prices, reviews and the address. Even a customer who heard about you from a friend will probably check your page before visiting.
- Lead channel. For clinics, training centres, clothing and furniture shops, Direct is a main way to get in touch. This takes regular content, Reels that introduce you to new people, and quick replies.
- Customer support. Buyers ask about delivery, warranty and order status. You need reply rules and a person who can quickly check details with the warehouse or courier.
- Win-back. Stories about new arrivals and offers remind past customers that you exist, which brings repeat visits to cafes, salons and shops.
Niches where Instagram pays off most
The platform is strongest where people decide with their eyes and with trust in the people behind the business. If you recognise your company in at least two of the points below, the account is probably worth real investment.
- Visual choice: clothing, furniture, interiors, food, beauty.
- People-based trust: clinics, independent specialists, education.
- Repeat purchases: cafes, salons, neighbourhood shops.
- A process worth showing: production, renovation, cooking, installation.
When another channel deserves the effort
If your customers are companies and deals are made through tenders, negotiations and in-person meetings, Instagram stays a supporting channel. A website, a Telegram channel with expert material or LinkedIn will usually do more for you.
That does not mean abandoning the account. Keep contacts current, the description clear and a few real photos visible. Just put your main energy where your buyers actually spend their time.
How to find out what your account really does
You do not need complicated reports. One evening is enough, and the answers will show the role Instagram already plays and the one it could play.
- Ask your last ten customers how they found you and whether they looked at your profile before buying.
- Count how many Direct enquiries came in last month and how many ended in a sale.
- Check who answers in Direct and how quickly.
- Compare your profile with your map listing, website and Telegram: address, hours, phone and prices should match.
Connect Instagram to the rest of your channels
An account rarely works alone. It amplifies word of mouth, advertising, your map listing and your website, and those in turn send people to your profile. Put the link wherever customers meet your brand: business cards, receipts, packaging and your Telegram channel.
A simple split works well. Use Instagram for discovery and trust, and Telegram for regular customers and orders, with payment links through Click or Payme. What matters most is consistency: nobody should run into an old phone number, a different price or the wrong address.
Where to start
Begin with the profile header: what you do, where you are, how to reach you and what to do next. Then pin a few posts about services and prices, or how to get a quote, organise Highlights by topic and name one person to handle Direct.
If you lack time or an in-house team, the account can be handed to a contractor. At markdev we manage Instagram for businesses in Uzbekistan, and we start by clarifying what role the account should play. Tell us about your task and we will work out together how much effort it really needs.
FAQ
Does every business in Uzbekistan need Instagram?
No. It helps most where customers choose visually and trust people: beauty, healthcare, clothing, furniture, food and education. For B2B sales based on tenders and meetings it is usually a supporting channel.
What matters more: design or fast replies in Direct?
Both matter, but if the account brings enquiries, slow replies lose customers faster than modest design. Fix response speed first, then improve the visuals.
Can Instagram replace a website?
For a small business the profile often works as a website, with photos, prices, reviews and contacts. A site still offers more room for detail and search traffic, so the two work best together.
How do I know the account is working?
Ask new customers how they found you and watch how many enquiries arrive in Direct. If people mention the profile or write from it, it is doing its job.
