Why the same label can mean very different work
Ask three contractors for a marketing package and you may get a logo, a month of Instagram posts and a forty-slide strategy deck. Each did what the name suggested, and none of them necessarily fixed what you were trying to fix.
Marketing services are simply tasks you hand to an outside team instead of doing them in-house. The clearer the boundary between your responsibility and theirs, the fewer surprises later.
The main types of marketing services
Most offers fall into a handful of groups. Inside each one there is simple work and deep work, so always ask how far the contractor will actually go.
- Research: competitor analysis, customer interviews, demand checks. Useful before a launch or when sales drop for no obvious reason.
- Strategy and consulting: positioning, target audience, channels, budget structure and an action plan.
- Brand: naming, logo, visual identity, packaging and a brand book your team can actually use.
- Advertising: Meta Ads, Google Ads, outdoor, placements in Telegram channels and with bloggers.
- Content: copy, photo, video, running Instagram and Telegram, product cards on Uzum and OLX.
- CRM and retention: working with your customer base, Telegram and SMS campaigns, loyalty programs.
- Analytics: tracking lead sources, end-to-end analytics, dashboards and regular reports.
Start with the problem, not the service
Pick a service by the problem it solves. Too few customers points toward advertising and content. Customers who buy once and disappear point toward retention. If you cannot tell which channel brings revenue, analytics comes first. If you struggle to explain how you differ from the shop next door, you need positioning and strategy.
Also check whether the cause sits outside marketing. Ads will not rescue a product nobody wants, and they will not help if enquiries die in the sales team, for example when messages in Telegram wait a day for a reply.
How to compare agency proposals
Compare scope, not names. Before signing, get written answers to a few plain questions:
- What exactly will I receive: a document, finished materials, running campaigns, a report?
- Which parts does the contractor do, and which parts do I owe?
- How often will reports and meetings happen?
- What number will show that the work succeeded?
- Who specifically will work on my project, and with what experience?
- Who owns the accounts, files and access if we stop working together?
Full package or separate specialists
A turnkey offer is convenient if the agency is genuinely strong across the board. That is rare. A team can run excellent ads and write average copy. Hiring separate specialists can work better, but then someone inside your company has to hold the whole picture together, or the services turn into unconnected tasks.
For a first engagement, a small pilot project lowers the risk. You see how the contractor works and reports, and they learn your business.
Marketing services in Uzbekistan: what you owe in return
No contractor performs well without your involvement. Expect to provide product information, access to customers, quick approvals and honest feedback on sales. The mistakes we see most often are:
- Ordering by the name of a service without checking what it contains.
- Buying advertising when the real problem is the product or the sales process.
- Commissioning a strategy and never carrying it out.
- Not agreeing in advance how results will be measured.
- Choosing purely on the lowest price without comparing scope.
When a strategy comes first
If you are unsure which services you actually need, an audit and a strategy are a sensible first step. A good strategy ends with a plan, not a pretty presentation: what to do, in what order, on what budget and how to check the result. At markdev we do this as marketing strategy and consulting for businesses in Uzbekistan.
If you would like to talk through your situation, get in touch. We will look at what you have, tell you honestly what is worth ordering now and what can wait.
FAQ
What do marketing services include?
Typically research, strategy and consulting, branding, advertising, content, CRM and retention, analytics, PR and training. The scope inside each group differs between contractors, so ask for a written list of deliverables.
Which service should a small business order first?
The one that addresses the main problem. If you do not know what is not working, begin with an audit and a simple strategy. If you already have a plan, move on to advertising, content or customer-base work.
Is a turnkey marketing package a good idea?
Only if the contractor is truly strong in every area and shows exactly what is included. Otherwise separate specialists may serve you better, provided someone in your company coordinates them.
How do I know a service worked?
Agree on measures beforehand, such as number of enquiries, cost per lead or repeat purchases. Put them in the contract with deadlines and an acceptance procedure.
