What a marketing strategy in Uzbekistan really involves
A strategy answers three questions: who your customer is, why that person should buy from you rather than a competitor, and what path leads from first contact to payment. Everything else, from Meta Ads and Instagram posts to the website and Telegram bots, is tactics.
Tactics without a strategy turn into scattered activity: an ad today, a promotion tomorrow, a new landing page next week, and no shared result. A good strategy is a working document that lets the owner, the marketer and the sales team make the same decisions and know which numbers each of them owns.
Start with the goal, the customer and the offer
Set the goal in revenue and enquiries, not reach or follower counts. Reach only matters once you know how much of it turns into conversations and payments. Then answer a few plain questions about the business. The last one is often forgotten: if managers reply to Telegram messages a day later, a bigger ad budget only increases the number of lost customers.
- Who is the customer: a private buyer, a shop, a company; in which city or region.
- What do they compare before buying: price, delivery time, instalments, reviews, guarantees.
- How are you different from competitors, and can you prove it.
- What is your average order value and how often do customers come back.
- How many enquiries can your sales team realistically handle.
The sales funnel in the Uzbek market
Customers rarely move in a straight line. Someone may see an Instagram ad, message you on Telegram, compare prices on OLX or Uzum, ask friends for advice, and finally pay through Click or Payme, or in cash on delivery. A strategy should map this journey in stages: discovers, gets interested, compares, buys, returns.
Assign a channel and a task to each stage. For discovery, Meta Ads and Google Search work well. For comparison, reviews, work samples and a clear price list matter. For the purchase itself, a fast reply and easy payment decide the outcome. Outside Tashkent, also consider communication habits: many people would rather call or send a voice message than fill in a web form.
Channels and budget: what the cost depends on
Do not split the budget evenly across every channel. Pick one or two where your customers really are, test them on real enquiries, and expand only after that. You will see sooner what pays back and avoid spending on platforms just to be present.
The cost of developing and running a strategy depends on market size, the number of products and directions, the state of your website and social accounts, the depth of analytics, and whether you need support after launch. Keep the ad spend paid to platforms and the specialists' work as separate lines, otherwise it is unclear what drives results.
Analytics: how to tell the strategy is working
Without measurement a strategy is only an opinion. Connect a CRM, or at least keep a shared sheet where managers record the status of each enquiry. Otherwise the ad report looks good, yet nobody knows where the money came from. From day one, collect at least this:
- the source of every enquiry: ads, search, Instagram, Telegram, referral;
- cost per enquiry and cost per paid order;
- the share of enquiries that end in a purchase;
- revenue by channel and the share of repeat sales.
Common mistakes
The same failures repeat from business to business. A strategy needs regular review, because exchange rates, seasons, customer behaviour and the platforms themselves change. A good plan stays alive and is adjusted by data.
- Launching ads without analytics or a clear offer.
- A vague goal such as “more sales” with no metrics or deadline.
- Copying competitors instead of defining your own position.
- No owners and no date to review the plan.
- Judging a contractor by likes instead of enquiries and revenue.
When an outside consultant helps
An outside view is useful when ads are running, sales are uneven and the reason is unclear. A fresh look can quickly locate the weak link, whether that is the offer, the website or the way enquiries are handled.

FAQ
How is a marketing strategy different from an ad campaign?
A campaign is a single tool for a limited period. A strategy sets goals, audience, offer and channels as a whole, and campaigns become parts of it.
Does a small business need a marketing strategy?
Yes, in a compact form: a clear goal, a customer profile, one or two channels and simple analytics. A long document is usually unnecessary.
How do I know the strategy is working?
By its link to money: enquiries from tracked sources grow, the cost of a paid order falls, and the share of repeat purchases rises.
How often should the strategy be reviewed?
Check channel numbers regularly, and revisit the strategy itself when the market, product or results change, for example once per season.
