What starting from scratch really means
Usually it is one of three situations: the business has no ad account or page yet; there is an account, but ads never brought a single customer; or everything was done by gut feeling and no data survived. In each case the work starts with questions about the business, not with ads.
Targeted advertising in Meta Ads shows your ads on Instagram and Facebook to people who match conditions you set: location, age, interests, behaviour, your own customer lists. Nobody was searching for you; you reach out with an offer. That is why the strength of the offer and the creative matters more than fine-tuned settings.
What to prepare before the first launch
Advertising amplifies what already exists. If the offer is vague, there is nowhere good to send people, or leads vanish in direct messages, the budget simply burns. Settle these points first.
- A measurable goal: a Telegram enquiry, a call, an order on the website, a booking. Awareness is hard to verify with a number.
- A clear offer: what the customer gets, how you differ, why they should write now.
- A destination: Instagram profile, website, Telegram bot or a chat with a manager. It must answer the customer's main question quickly.
- Lead tracking: who replies, how fast, and where results are recorded.
- The Meta Pixel and site events if you have a website; for chat-based sales, at least a source tag on each enquiry.
- Unit economics: how much you can pay per lead given your margin and the share of leads that become sales.
How a launch is structured
First comes the business account: page, Instagram and ad account are connected, payment and access are set up. It is better if you, not the contractor, own the ad account, so campaign history and the audiences built stay with your business.
Then the structure. Separate campaigns for different goals or products, ad sets with different audiences inside, and several creative variants in each. At the start it makes sense to test a broad audience and a couple of narrow hypotheses rather than dozens of segments. On a small budget, data gets sliced so thin that no conclusions come out.
Creative is the main lever. Video of the real process, customer feedback, examples of finished work and answers to common objections usually beat stock images. Write in your customer's language: for a mass audience in Uzbekistan you often need both Russian and Uzbek versions.
The first weeks: what to expect and watch
Meta's system goes through a learning phase, so numbers are unstable in the first days. Do not change settings daily: you reset the learning and never get clean data. Let ads collect enough impressions and actions, then switch off weak variants and push the strong ones.
Do not look only at cost per click. The chain is impression, click, lead, qualified lead, sale. Cheap clicks with no sales are worse than a pricier lead that closes. That is why ad results should be checked against your sales team or CRM, even if the CRM is a spreadsheet.
Common beginner mistakes
Most first-month failures come not from bad targeting but from basics.
- Using the Boost button instead of the ad account, which gives less control over goal and analytics.
- One creative and one audience, so nothing can be compared.
- A budget so small that a hypothesis cannot be tested in reasonable time.
- A promotion with no deadline and no clear next step.
- Replying to a lead a day later, when the customer has already messaged a faster competitor.
- Judging success by likes and reach instead of leads and sales.
Do it yourself, hire a freelancer or an agency
Doing it yourself fits a small budget and a person with time to learn; you pay with time and mistakes. A freelancer gives a fast start, but creative, analytics and reporting often remain on your side. An agency makes sense when you need a team: strategist, designer, analyst.
Whatever the format, ask for access to the ad account and reports in numbers, and treat guaranteed results as a warning sign. The service fee comes from the scope of work: how many products and placements, how many creatives, how deep the analytics goes. The ad budget is paid separately, straight to Meta.

FAQ
Can I run Meta Ads from scratch on my own?
Yes, if you have time to learn the ad account, analytics and creative testing. At minimum, set up the pixel or source tags and keep a record of leads, otherwise you cannot judge the result.
How is Meta Ads different from the Boost button?
Boost offers a simplified set of options. In the ad account you choose the campaign goal, audiences, placements and optimisation event, so you control the outcome much better.
How long until the first results?
First leads can arrive quickly, but reliable conclusions appear once the system has learned and enough data has built up. Timing depends on the niche, offer and budget, and nobody can honestly guarantee it.
What makes up the price of ad setup and management?
The scope of work: number of products and placements, number of creatives, depth of analytics and reporting frequency. The ad spend itself is paid separately, directly to Meta.
