What “modern” really means
Many clients arrive with a screenshot from a foreign portfolio and ask for the same look. But a site that looks great on a designer's monitor can perform badly in a customer's hand. A modern site is one that makes sense within seconds, opens fast and leads to one clear action.
So the design conversation should start with a question rather than a colour palette: what should the visitor do? Leave a phone number, message you on Telegram, place an order, book an appointment. The answer shapes the page structure and even the blocks on the home page.
Mobile first, desktop second
A large share of visitors arrive on a phone, coming from Instagram, Meta ads, Telegram channels or OLX listings. If a layout is drawn for a wide monitor and then squeezed onto a smartphone, you get tiny text, buttons that are hard to tap and tables that run off the screen.
The better order is the reverse: design the mobile screen first, then expand it for a laptop. A small screen forces you to keep only what matters, and that discipline usually improves the whole site.
Speed and simplicity beat decoration
Mobile internet outside the capital can be unreliable, and a heavy site will simply lose its visitor. Loading speed is part of design, not a task to hand to a developer later.
What usually keeps a site light and clear:
- optimised photos instead of huge originals
- a limited number of fonts and animations
- one main call to action per screen
- short forms: name and phone, not a ten-field questionnaire
- readable text size and enough contrast
- a simple menu without five levels of nesting
Design that leads to an enquiry or a payment
Local habits matter more than templates. Customers in Uzbekistan often prefer to message on Telegram or call rather than fill in a form, so contact buttons should be visible and work in one tap. If you sell online, paying with Click or Payme should sit inside a clear path: product, cart, payment, confirmation.
Trust is also built through design: real photos instead of stock images, an address and a map, reviews, prices in sum, plain delivery terms. Empty promises and faceless pictures put people off more than a modest but honest layout.
Languages and local details
Most businesses need at least Russian and Uzbek versions. Plan for that in the design from the start: Uzbek words are often longer, and a button that looks neat in one language can break a line in the other. The language switch should be easy to spot, not tucked into the footer.
What the price of website design depends on
The price depends not on the word “modern” but on the scope of work. It is shaped by the number of page types, a catalogue and cart, the number of languages, how much original illustration or photography is needed, integrations with payment systems and a CRM, and whether the design is made from scratch or on a ready base.
Ask for an estimate broken down by stage: research and structure, mockups, front-end build, content, testing. That makes it easier to compare freelancers, studios and agencies and to avoid paying for things you do not need.
Where to start
Define the purpose of the site and how you will measure it: how many enquiries you want and from which channels. Connect analytics before launch, otherwise a month later you will not know whether the new design works better than the old one.
At markdev we build websites on a turnkey basis, from structure and mockups to launch and analytics setup. If you would like to discuss a project for your business in Tashkent or the regions, leave a request and we will work out what kind of site you actually need.
FAQ
How is a modern website different from an ordinary one?
It is comfortable on a phone, loads quickly, leads the visitor clearly to an enquiry or payment, and reflects local habits such as Telegram, Click, Payme and two languages.
Do I need a site in two languages?
For most businesses in Uzbekistan it makes sense: Russian and Uzbek versions reach more customers. It is best to plan the languages into the design from the beginning.
What affects the cost of website design?
The number and type of pages, a catalogue, languages, payment and CRM integrations, the amount of original imagery, and whether the layout is made from scratch.
How do I know the new design worked?
Compare results before and after: number of enquiries, cost per enquiry, and the share of visitors who reach the form. Analytics must be connected beforehand for this.
