What off-page SEO actually is
Off-page SEO covers every signal outside your own website that tells a search engine whether you can be trusted: links from other sites, mentions of your company, customer reviews, and your listings on maps and directories. On-page work explains what your pages are about. Off-page work shows that other people think you are worth recommending.
Any site can claim to be the best in town. Google and Yandex look for confirmation from third parties: industry sites that link to you, publications that quote you, customers who leave reviews, and a name, address and phone number that match everywhere you appear. The more independent confirmation, the more trust.
In practice, it has more in common with PR and reputation than with technical tuning.
The signals that count
Links are only one part of the picture. Search engines read anything public that says something about your business.
- Links from relevant industry, local and regional websites
- Brand mentions that carry no link
- Reviews on maps and industry platforms
- Listings in Google, Yandex, 2GIS and trade directories
- Press coverage and expert comments
- Brand activity on social networks and in Telegram channels
Which links are worth having
A good link exists because your page helps the reader: it sits in an article about the industry, a supplier list, or a partner’s write-up of a joint project. Three things matter: how close the site is to your topic, its own reputation, and whether real people click through.
One link from a respected industry portal can outweigh a hundred from random sites, so judge sources by quality, not by quantity.
What puts your site at risk
Search engines have become good at spotting artificial link profiles. The outcome ranges from your links being ignored to your site being pushed down in results, and recovering from that can take a long time.
Be especially careful with these:
- Bulk-buying links on sites that exist only to sell them
- Links from irrelevant sites, including ones in unrelated languages
- Hundreds of identical keyword anchors in a short period
- Automated registration tools
- Fake reviews, or reviews written by the owner
Where to earn mentions in Uzbekistan
For a local business the sources are fairly down to earth. Start where your company can appear naturally: trade publications and news sites that accept expert comments, partner and supplier websites, association and exhibition pages, and trusted local directories.
Links in Telegram posts may not count as classic links for search engines. They still send people to your site and push up searches for your brand name, which helps. Keep both Russian-language and Uzbek-language media in mind, because both audiences need a reason to trust you.
Reviews and map listings
For local search, reviews carry extra weight: a customer in Tashkent, Samarkand or Namangan often decides from the rating and recent comments before ever opening your site. Ask satisfied customers for a review right after the order is done, for example in a messenger, and answer every review, negative ones included, calmly and to the point.
Never buy reviews or write them yourself. Platforms remove suspicious ratings and can demote the whole listing. Keep your name, address, phone, website and opening hours identical across every profile, since mismatches confuse both search engines and customers.
How to measure progress and where to begin
Watch the trend: the number and quality of referring domains in Search Console and Yandex Webmaster, growth in branded searches, the number and average score of reviews, and visits from other sites in your analytics. The raw link count says very little.
Start simply. Check who already links to you and whether any sources look suspicious. Bring your listings into one consistent format. Draft a list of places where your company could appear organically and work through it step by step. If you hire a contractor, ask for a register of every link: the page address, the date and how it was obtained. It protects you if a search engine questions your profile and shows which placements brought enquiries and which only pad the report.
Off-page signals strengthen a website, they do not replace one. Links will not hold up a weak page for long, and a visitor who arrives through a mention will leave for a competitor with a clearer offer. Fix the page first, then draw attention to it.

FAQ
How is off-page SEO different from on-page SEO?
On-page SEO deals with the site itself: structure, copy, speed and technical setup. Off-page SEO deals with what others say and where they link to you: links, mentions, reviews and map listings.
Is it safe to buy links?
Bulk buying on sites built to sell links is risky, because search engines may ignore those links or lower your site. Safer routes are publications and partnerships where the link genuinely helps the reader.
Do Telegram links help SEO?
They may not count as regular links. Mentions in channels still bring visitors straight to your site and raise searches for your brand, which is useful in its own right.
How do I know off-page SEO is working?
Track the quality of referring domains in Search Console and Yandex Webmaster, growth in searches for your company name, the number of reviews and visits from other websites.
