Why weak copy usually starts with the brief
A common scenario: a company owner in Tashkent asks a freelancer for an article about air conditioner installation and sends a list of keywords. The writer opens the first search results, reads the top pages and rewrites them in new words. The result looks like ten other pages and says nothing specific about how your team works.
A writer cannot know your business. Whatever you leave out gets filled with safe phrases such as "experienced specialists" and "high quality". Search engines see little value in pages like that, and visitors leave within seconds.
Start with the page goal and search intent
Before keywords, answer three questions: what kind of page is this, what should the reader do afterwards, and why did the person type this query in the first place. Intent varies: to learn, to compare, to buy or to find contacts. A service page and a how-to article do different jobs and need different writing.
- Page type: service, category, blog article or answer to a question
- Desired action: leave a request, message you on Telegram, call, open the catalogue
- Main query and closely related phrases
- Reader profile: small business owner, procurement manager, private customer
- What the reader already knows and which terms need explaining
Company facts are what a writer cannot invent
The most valuable part of any brief is material your competitors do not have. Arrange a short interview with the writer or answer their questions in writing: how your service differs, how the work goes step by step, what conditions and limits apply, what clients ask most often and which objections you hear.
Talk to the person who deals with customers, such as a sales manager, technician or administrator. They know the real questions from phone calls and from chats in Telegram and Instagram, and those questions often become the outline of the article. Publish prices only if you can keep them current. When the price depends on scope, it is better to explain honestly what it consists of.
Keywords and page structure in the brief
State the main query separately and say where it must appear: in the title, the first paragraph and at least one subheading. Treat other queries as topics the text should cover, not phrases to repeat mechanically. Keyword stuffing is obvious to readers and to search engines alike.
Set the structure in advance, either as a list of subheadings or as questions the page must answer. That protects completeness. Attach two or three pages from the search results, not to copy them but so the writer can see what already exists and where your page can be more complete and more concrete.
Style and length without counting characters
Agree on tone: formal or friendly address, how many technical terms are acceptable, how to handle mixing Uzbek and Russian words, and whether short paragraphs are required. Most visitors arrive from phones, so long walls of text with no subheadings or lists perform badly. A sample you like explains tone better than any description.
Define length by coverage rather than by a minimum number of characters: the text ends when all the questions are answered. Strong competitor pages can serve as a rough guide, but length for its own sake adds nothing.
How to review the finished draft
Review the text against the brief, not against a feeling. If a point is missing, send it back with a specific comment instead of "make it better".
- The page answers the main query and every question on the list
- Company facts are accurate and no empty promises slipped in
- The main query sits where agreed, without forced repetition
- The text is original, well edited and explains its terms
- Paragraphs are short and headings work on a phone screen
- The ending gives the reader a clear next step
Copy is one part of the wider SEO work
Even excellent copy will not carry a site if pages load slowly, the structure is confusing and meta tags are empty. That is why copywriting is best planned together with technical fixes and internal linking. FAQ
What is an SEO copywriting brief?
It is the written task you give a writer. It covers the page goal, main query, audience, structure, company facts and the criteria you will use to review the result.
How many keywords should a text contain?
There is no fixed number. The main query goes into the title, the first paragraph and a subheading, and related phrases are covered as topics. If the text reads naturally, you are on the right track.
What if the writer does not know our business?
Give them access to a specialist for a short interview or written answers. Also send the questions clients ask most often and a description of your process and terms.
How should I set the length of the text?
Base it on how fully the topic is covered, not on a character count. Look at the strongest pages in the search results and make sure yours answers the same questions with more specifics.
