What an SMS sender ID is and why it matters
An SMS sender ID, also called an alphanumeric sender name or alpha name, is a short label that appears in the sender field instead of a phone number. Most businesses use their company or brand name in Latin letters. The customer knows who is writing before opening the message.
There is a trade-off: customers usually cannot reply to a message sent under a sender name. That makes it a one-way channel, so the text itself should include a way to reach you, such as a phone number, a link or a Telegram bot.
How to send SMS from your company name
You cannot simply type any name and start sending. The sender ID is registered through an SMS provider that is connected to mobile operators in Uzbekistan. The general path is below, but exact requirements depend on the provider and the operators and can change.
- Choose a provider: compare terms, support, delivery reports and integrations with your website or CRM.
- Pick the name: short, in Latin letters, matching your company or brand.
- Prepare documents: typically company registration details, plus proof of rights if the name is a trademark.
- Wait while the provider gets the name approved by operators.
- Connect sending through the provider’s dashboard or API to your site, CRM or booking system.
- Test delivery on numbers from different operators before launch.
Choosing a name that gets approved and remembered
Use the name customers already know. If your shop is the same on Instagram, on the signboard and on Uzum, the SMS should not introduce a third version. Avoid names that resemble another company or could mislead people: they are unlikely to be approved and will confuse customers.
Keep it simple and use one sender name for every message. Customers learn to recognise it quickly.
Service messages versus promotional messages
Service messages follow a customer action and are expected: order confirmations, login codes, appointment reminders at a clinic or salon, delivery updates, payment notices after Click or Payme. This is the core use of the channel and the best place to start.
Promotional messages, such as offers, discounts and new arrivals, should go only to people who agreed to receive them. Do not mix the two types. Advertising inside a service flow may break operator rules or the law, and it damages trust in your sender name.
Writing SMS text that works
Short texts get read. Long ones are split into several parts, and each part is billed separately.
- Put the point first: what happened and what to do.
- Add specifics: date, time, address, order number.
- Offer one clear next step: call, open a link or message the bot.
- Write in the customer’s language: Uzbek in Latin script or Russian in Cyrillic.
- Send during the day, not late at night.
Consent, encoding and timing
A phone number is personal data. Collect consent at sign-up, checkout or when issuing a loyalty card, keep the date and source, and make opting out easy. Remove people who unsubscribe from your promotional list.
Check encoding too. Cyrillic reduces how many characters fit in one message, and Uzbek letters o‘ and g‘ typed with a special apostrophe can also switch an SMS to an encoding with a lower limit. Ask your provider and run a test message before a big send.
How to measure results
For service SMS, look at delivery and at behaviour: do no-shows drop after reminders, do fewer customers call to ask where their order is. For promotional SMS, count clicks on a unique link, redeemed promo codes and unsubscribes. If unsubscribes climb after every campaign, you are sending too often or saying too little of interest.
To see how many orders the channel actually brings, tag the links and match the data with your CRM and sales records. That is what end-to-end analytics does: it follows the path from message to payment. If you want to set up that kind of reporting, you can discuss the task with the markdev team.
FAQ
Can I send SMS from my company name without registering it?
Messages will go out, but under a number or the provider’s generic name. To show your brand, the sender ID has to be registered through a provider and approved by operators.
What documents are needed for a sender ID?
Usually company registration documents and, if the name is a trademark, proof of your rights to it. The exact list and timing depend on the provider and operators, so ask before planning a launch.
Can customers reply to a message from a sender name?
Usually not. Include a phone number, a link or a Telegram bot in the text so they can reach you.
Can I send promotions to my whole customer list?
Only to people who agreed to receive them. Store the date and source of consent, offer an easy opt-out and stop messaging those who leave.
