What actually happens in Figma
Figma is an interface design tool. A designer lays out page structure, chooses fonts and colours, draws buttons, forms and content blocks, then links screens into a clickable prototype. You can open that prototype from a link and show it to a director, a partner or the sales team before a single line of code exists.
So when a client asks to create a website in Figma, they usually mean the first stage: the design mockup. A live site that collects leads, takes payments through Click or Payme and has an admin panel only appears after front-end work and programming.
Why a mockup comes before the build
A mistake in a mockup is cheap; the same mistake in a finished site is expensive. Moving a block in Figma takes minutes, while rebuilding a coded page takes developer hours. A mockup quickly shows that the offer is hard to read, the contact form is buried or the phone layout is awkward.
In Uzbekistan the phone layout deserves special attention. A large share of visitors arrive from Instagram, Telegram channels and Meta or Google ads, almost always on a phone. Design the mobile version first instead of promising to adapt it later.
The stages of the work
A sound process looks roughly like this, and every step affects the final result.
- Brief and goal: leads, sales, bookings or a brand showcase.
- Page structure and a plain wireframe to test the customer journey.
- A design system: colours, fonts, buttons and spacing, so the site feels consistent.
- Desktop and mobile mockups with real copy rather than placeholder text.
- Handoff to developers: clean layers, clear names, states for buttons and forms.
- Front-end build and features: forms, CRM, Telegram alerts, payments.
- Testing, launch and analytics setup.
What drives the cost
Price is not set by the number of pages alone. It follows the amount of thinking and approvals involved: how many unique page templates there are, how much animation and interaction you want, whether the site needs both Russian and Uzbek, whether there is a catalogue or personal account, and who writes the copy.
Development is estimated separately, whether on a builder like Tilda, on WordPress or in custom code. A builder is faster and cheaper at the start, while custom code is more flexible for catalogues, integrations and heavy traffic. The choice should follow the task, not fashion.
Common mistakes when ordering
The first mistake is paying only for an attractive picture without agreeing who turns it into a site and how. A mockup drawn without regard for the platform often has to be simplified during development.
The second is designing without real text and photos. A two-line headline in the file becomes five lines in real life and the whole grid breaks. The third is skipping analytics: without counters and goals you cannot tell which pages bring enquiries and which just take up space.
The fourth is forgetting search. Heading structure, page addresses and loading speed are easier to plan at the mockup stage than to fix later.
Handing the design to developers cleanly
Ask the designer for access to the Figma file, not only screenshots. Check that tablet and phone versions exist, element states are described and images are exported. Show the mockup to the developer before final approval, since they will quickly flag what is costly or complicated.
If design and code are done by different people, name one person responsible for comparing the result with the mockup before launch.
Where to start
Write down what the site should bring to the business, collect a few sites you like and prepare your main texts and photos. That is enough for a first estimate.
At markdev we build websites end to end, from a Figma prototype to launch, analytics and advertising setup. If you would like to talk through your task and decide which format fits, get in touch and we will look at your case without inflated promises.
FAQ
Can I build a complete website using only Figma?
No. Figma is for design and clickable prototypes. A working site with forms, payments and an admin panel needs front-end and back-end development on a builder, a CMS or custom code.
What do I receive after the Figma stage?
Page mockups for desktop and phone, a design system and a link to an interactive prototype. It is the foundation for developers and a way to agree the look in advance.
Do I need a mockup if the site will be built on Tilda?
A small landing page can work with a simple structure, but a site with complex logic or a distinct brand style benefits from a mockup, which saves time and avoids rework.
How do I know the design is ready for developers?
It has versions for different screens, real copy, described states for buttons and forms, and clearly named layers. Ideally a developer has already reviewed it and confirmed it can be built.
