What website design actually includes
Good design starts with a goal, not a colour palette: what should a visitor do on the site, and what stops them? That is why page structure and screen logic come first, and the visual layer comes after.
If a contractor immediately sends a few “examples from your niche” and asks you to pick one, you are being offered a template, not a designed solution. The same template performs very differently for a shop, a clinic and a training centre.
- page structure and a clickable prototype
- a design system: fonts, colours, buttons, forms
- layouts for phone and desktop
- key flows: ordering, booking, calling, paying
- handover files and rules for the developer
Design only, or a full turnkey site
You can buy design on its own, but a mockup is not a website. It still has to be built, with forms, a CRM, analytics and sensible loading speed. When the designer and the developer do not talk, attractive ideas get simplified or broken along the way.
For most small and mid-sized businesses it is easier when design and development sit in one team, so each layout is drawn knowing how it will work. Standalone design makes sense mainly when you already have your own developers.
What shapes the price
No one can give an honest figure without a brief, and that is normal. The price depends on the number and type of pages, fully custom design versus adapting an existing base, the amount of graphics and animation, how many languages you need, and how complex the features are: a catalogue, a customer account, online payment.
Also account for what often falls out of estimates: copy, photos, icons, edits after launch and ongoing support. Ask for the proposal to be split into stages so you can see what each part costs and cut what you do not need.
What matters in the Uzbek market
Most visitors arrive on a phone, often from Instagram or Telegram, so the mobile version should be designed first. Outside Tashkent the connection can be unreliable, and heavy screens with video backgrounds may simply not load.
Your audience is bilingual, so many sites need Uzbek and Russian versions, and the layout has to cope with text of different lengths. For an online shop, plan for Click or Payme at checkout; for services, make the enquiry button lead straight to Telegram or a call. These details move sales more than the shade of a headline.
How to choose a contractor
Freelancers, small studios and agencies differ less in price than in accountability and in how much of the job they can cover. Look at real projects rather than a gallery of images, and ask what happened to those sites after launch.
Before starting, put a few questions to the contractor:
- How will you learn about my goals and my customers?
- Who builds the pages and connects forms and analytics?
- How many revision rounds are included, and how are they agreed?
- Who owns the source files and the domain after handover?
- What happens if I need changes six months from now?
Where to start
Prepare a short brief: what you sell, who your customer is, where they come from, and which action counts as success. Add two or three sites you like and explain why. That is enough to get a specific proposal instead of a generic price list.

FAQ
Can I buy only the design without development?
Yes, but you will receive layouts, not a working website. This option fits if you already have developers who will build and launch the project.
How is custom design different from a template?
Custom design is planned around your flows and audience, while a template is adapted to fit you. A template is faster and simpler; custom work conveys your business better and gives more freedom.
Why can’t a price be given straight away?
The cost depends on the number of pages, features, languages and the amount of graphics. Without a short brief, any figure would be a guess rather than a calculation.
Should the design support both Uzbek and Russian?
If part of your audience speaks Uzbek, plan two language versions from the start. The layout then accounts for different text lengths and a language switcher.
