Website SEO in Uzbekistan: where to start and what to measure

Website SEO is the work of making your pages show up in search for the queries your customers actually type, and bringing in people who are ready to message, call or buy. For a business in Tashkent or the regions, it is one of the few channels where traffic does not vanish the day an ad budget runs out. It is also not a shortcut: results come from several layers of work, and skipping one weakens the rest.

What website SEO actually includes

Under one name sit four different jobs: the technical health of the site, its structure and keyword research, the content of each page, and outside signals such as mentions, links and listings on maps and directories. Miss one and the others underperform. Good copy will not rescue a site that loads slowly on a mobile connection, and a fast site without the right pages has nothing to show for a query.

So when you talk to a contractor, skip "how much does it cost" at first. Ask what they will check on your site first, and why.

The technical foundation

Most buyers in Uzbekistan browse on a phone, often on a connection that is not perfectly stable. Loading speed, a responsive layout and properly prepared images are not details; they decide whether the site gets a chance at all. Beyond that, check that pages can be indexed, that there are no duplicates or broken links, that every page has its own title and description, and that the sitemap and robots file are set up.

Languages deserve a separate look. If the site runs in Russian and Uzbek, each version needs its own address and a correct link between them. Otherwise search engines mix the versions up and visitors land in the wrong language.

It is far cheaper to build these things in during development than to repair them later. Restructuring a finished site costs more than planning the structure up front.

Keywords and structure for the local market

Keyword research is the list of phrases people use to find what you sell. In Uzbekistan the queries are often mixed: the same buyer may search in Russian, in Uzbek Latin script and sometimes in Cyrillic, and may add a district or city name. Collect phrases in every language your customers speak, and separate commercial queries ("order", "price", "near me") from informational ones ("how to choose").

Then map queries to pages: one service or category, one page built around its own intent. When everything is piled onto the homepage, search engines cannot tell what to show and visitors cannot find what they came for.

Content and trust signals

A page that ranks answers a real person's question: what you offer, who it is for, how to order, how long it takes, and what happens if something goes wrong. Real photos, a description of the process, reviews, an address with a map, and clear payment options such as Click, Payme, cash or instalments, if you offer them, all help.

For local businesses, a Google Maps listing and accurate directory entries matter. Name, address, phone number and opening hours should match everywhere, because inconsistencies confuse both customers and search engines.

How to measure SEO results

Without analytics, SEO turns into a matter of faith. Before any work starts, install tracking and set up goals: a form submission, a tap on the phone number, a click to Telegram, a completed order. Then you can see not just visits, but where the people who actually got in touch came from.

Timelines depend on the age of the site, the competition and where you start. A promise of "top positions in a month" is a reason for caution. An honest conversation is built around stages and early signs of growth.

  • rankings for groups of queries, not for one or two favourite words;
  • organic traffic to key pages;
  • number of enquiries from search: forms, calls, Telegram;
  • share of enquiries that became sales, which sales and marketing should count together;
  • indexing status and technical errors.

How to choose an SEO agency in Tashkent

The market is uneven: freelancers, small studios and full-service agencies. Size matters less than transparency. A good contractor shows an audit with specific findings, explains priorities, gives you access to analytics and reports, and does not guarantee rankings that depend on the search engine. Be wary of template reports with no conclusions and of links bought in bulk.

Also ask who owns the access. Your domain, hosting, analytics and search console accounts should be registered to you, not to the contractor.

Where to begin

A practical order: audit the current site, or the requirements for a new one; collect keywords; plan the page structure; fix technical problems; then work on content and steady improvements guided by data. If the site is still only planned, it pays to build SEO into development from day one.

At markdev we build websites on a turnkey basis, with structure, speed and analytics planned in, and we discuss promotion against your actual goals. If you want to talk through your own case in Tashkent or elsewhere in Uzbekistan, leave a request and we will start with questions, not promises.

FAQ

How long does website SEO take?

There is no honest fixed answer. It depends on the age of the site, competition in your niche and the amount of work needed. Technical fixes show up sooner, while traffic and enquiries grow in stages. A contractor should explain the stages rather than promise a set result.

Can I do SEO on a site that is already live?

Yes. It usually begins with an audit of speed, indexing, structure and page content, followed by fixes in order of importance. If the site is built in a way that makes improvement hard, rebuilding it with SEO in mind may be the more sensible route.

How is SEO different from Google or Meta ads?

Ads bring traffic only while you pay for them. SEO builds visibility in search that lasts longer but grows more slowly. Many businesses combine them: ads for fast enquiries, SEO for a steady flow over time.

Do I need SEO in both Russian and Uzbek?

If your customers search in both languages, yes: each version needs its own address and its own titles. Queries differ between the languages, so simply translating pages is not enough.
