Does your site need Yandex at all
For many websites in Uzbekistan, Google brings the main share of search traffic, but part of the audience, especially Russian-speaking users, still searches in Yandex. How much that matters to you is shown by your own site, not by general statistics. Open the traffic sources report in your analytics and check how many visits and enquiries come from Yandex.
If the share is noticeable, or you want to grow it, treat Yandex as a separate task. If it is close to zero, the basic setup described below is enough, and there is no need for a dedicated strategy.
- Russian-language services in Tashkent: clinics, law firms, car services, training centres
- B2B companies selling to Russia, Kazakhstan and other CIS markets
- Online shops with a Russian-speaking audience and delivery across the regions
- Sites that already get Yandex traffic but few enquiries
How Yandex differs from Google
The foundation is the same for both: a clear structure, fast pages and useful text that answers real queries. Yandex does put its own emphasis on a few things. It ties a site more strongly to a region, pays attention to commercial signals on a page and takes into account how convenient the site is for visitors.
In practice, a weak site cannot be rescued with links. If someone opens a page, cannot find a price, an address or a way to get in touch, and leaves, no amount of keyword work will fix that.
Yandex SEO setup: the technical minimum
Start with the free tools Yandex provides to site owners. Without them you cannot see how the search engine reads your website.
- Yandex Webmaster: verify ownership, submit a sitemap, check indexing and errors
- Site region: set it in Webmaster, for example Tashkent, if you serve a local market
- Yandex Metrica with goals: a call, a click to Telegram, a form submission, a Click or Payme payment
- Mobile speed: most visitors use smartphones, and heavy pages lose customers
- One canonical address: https, either www or non-www, proper redirects, no duplicates
- Separate pages for Russian and Uzbek instead of mixing languages on one page
Content and commercial signals
Yandex and people want the same things: what you sell, on what terms and how to reach you. A service or product page should have a plain description, the ordering process, payment and delivery terms, an address, opening hours, a phone number and a Telegram link.
Do not copy supplier descriptions or move listings from OLX or Uzum without rewriting them. When dozens of sellers publish identical text, nothing gives a reason to pick your site. Add what others lack: photos of your own work, answers to questions customers actually ask, realistic timelines and terms.
Yandex Maps and your business listing
For a local business, a noticeable share of enquiries can come from the map listing rather than the website. Fill in your organisation profile in Yandex Business: address, opening hours, phone numbers, photos, list of services. Keep the details identical to your website, Google Business Profile and 2GIS. Mismatched addresses or phone numbers confuse search engines and customers alike.
Reply to reviews calmly and to the point. It builds more trust than any claim on your own site.
Measuring the result
Rankings are only an intermediate indicator. What matters to the business is the number and quality of enquiries from search. Agree in advance what counts as a result: a lead, a call, an order or a cost per enquiry.
SEO does not work overnight, so compare whole periods rather than single days and watch the trend. If you connect a CRM and tag each enquiry with its source, you will see which queries bring paying customers and which bring only visits. Without that, it is impossible to tell whether the work pays back.
Where to start
First, check your traffic sources and set up Webmaster and Metrica. Then fix technical errors and tidy up service pages and your business listing. Only after that, expand keywords and content.

FAQ
Is Yandex SEO needed in Uzbekistan if I already work on Google?
It depends on your audience. Check how many enquiries come from Yandex in your analytics. If the share is noticeable or your customers are Russian-speaking, basic Yandex optimisation is justified. Most of the work overlaps with Google.
Which Yandex tools should I set up first?
Yandex Webmaster for indexing, region and errors, Yandex Metrica with goals, and a Yandex Business listing if you have a physical address.
How long until I see results?
No honest fixed answer exists. It depends on the state of the site, competition and the amount of work. Judge progress by periods and enquiries, not by individual days.
How do I know SEO is paying off?
Set up goals in Metrica, link enquiries to their source in your CRM, and compare the cost of promotion with the cost per enquiry and the revenue that comes from search.
