Why a map listing matters locally
People open a map when they need an answer right now: where to eat, which clinic is closest, who can fix a car today. They glance at the pin, photos, opening hours and ratings, then call or start navigation. If your business is missing or the details are outdated, that call goes to a competitor down the street.
Yandex Maps is widely used in Tashkent and other cities, particularly by people who search in Russian. Listing through Yandex Business is free, so for cafes, salons, clinics, shops and service companies it is one of the cheapest channels available. It costs care, not budget.
Step one: check whether a listing already exists
Search the map by name, address and phone number. A listing may already exist: a visitor could have added it, a previous tenant of the premises may have left one behind, or the service may have created it from public data. If so, do not create a new one. Claim the existing listing instead.
A duplicate splits your reviews and confuses customers, with one calling an old number and another driving to an old pin. Also search by former names, because premises in Tashkent often change hands while the old signboard lingers on the map.
Step two: choose the owner account
Create a dedicated Yandex account tied to a company email. Avoid using the personal account of a director, marketer or contractor. Staff and agencies can be added as representatives with the access they need.
If the listing sits on one person’s account and that person leaves, the company can lose control of its own listing, and recovering it takes time. Keep the login details somewhere management can reach.
How to add business to Yandex Maps, field by field
Sign in to Yandex Business with the company account and start adding the organization. Keep every field plain and truthful, because the service checks what you write against reality.
- Name: exactly as on your signboard and documents. No keywords, districts, slogans or “cheap”. Write “Motor”, not “Motor – engine repair Tashkent”.
- Category: the main one should be as specific as possible, for example “Dental clinic” rather than “Medical center”. Add secondary categories only if they match what you do.
- Address: street and building number as people say them. Place the pin on the entrance, not the middle of the building.
- Directions: floor, office number and a landmark such as a metro station, bazaar, shopping center or mahalla. If the entrance is through a courtyard or a mall, say so.
- Contacts: a phone number that is actually answered, plus your website and Telegram.
- Hours: real ones, including lunch breaks. Do not claim 24/7 unless it is true.
- Submit for review.
Verification: what to expect
After submission, the service reviews the data. You may get a call to the number you listed or be asked to confirm in another way that you represent the business. Keep the phone on and make sure whoever answers knows what the call is about. Until the review ends, the listing may be hidden or incomplete, and you can follow its status in your account.
Prepare photos of the signboard and entrance, and make sure details match your website, Instagram and other directories. Inconsistencies slow things down and confuse customers.
Fill in the listing and earn your first reviews
A bare listing loses to a complete one. Add a logo, cover image and photos of the facade, entrance, interior, your work or products. Write a short description of what you do and for whom, without advertising slogans. List services or products, payment options, parking, Wi-Fi and accessibility. If you accept Click and Payme, mention it in the description.
Ask real customers for the first reviews by sending a direct link to the listing in a personal message after their visit, and answer every review. Writing your own reviews or buying them breaks the platform rules and can bring sanctions.
Common mistakes and keeping the listing alive
The usual problems are creating a duplicate instead of claiming access, stuffing keywords into the name, placing the pin away from the entrance, and registering the business under someone else’s account. The quietest mistake is neglect: a year later the phone number and hours no longer match reality, and customers arrive at a closed door.
Log in monthly to reply to reviews, check changes suggested by users and review statistics. Test it as a customer would: find the business on your phone, build a route to the entrance and call the listed number. Link the listing from your website and Telegram channel, and add the same details to Google Maps and 2GIS.
