How to Add a Website to Yandex Webmaster in Uzbekistan

To add a website to Yandex Webmaster, you enter the exact address your site uses and then prove you control it. The tool is free and shows how Yandex indexes your pages, which searches they appear for and which technical problems it has found. Here is how to do it properly, and what usually goes wrong.

Why bother with Yandex if most traffic comes from Google

In Uzbekistan most organic traffic tends to come from Google, but Russian-speaking users, especially in Tashkent, still search on Yandex. If you sell products or services in Russian, some of your customers will find you there, and without Webmaster you cannot even tell whether Yandex can see your pages.

The service gives you three things: indexing information, search query statistics and a list of technical issues. It is a diagnostic tool, not an ad account. It promises nothing, but it shows you what to fix.

What to prepare before you start

Settle these three points first, otherwise you may have to reconnect the site later.

The account matters most. If the site is tied to a contractor's or employee's personal email, recovering access when you part ways takes time. Set everything up under the company from the start.

  • A dedicated Yandex account on a shared company email, not a personal one
  • Access to at least one of these: your CMS admin panel, hosting files or the domain's DNS settings
  • The exact main address: https or http, with www or without

How to add a website to Yandex Webmaster step by step

Sign in to Webmaster with the company account and choose to add a site. Type the address exactly as visitors see it. If your site runs on https without www, enter it that way. A wrong protocol is the most common reason for empty reports: the address is accepted, but little data appears.

Subdomains count as separate sites. A blog at blog.example.uz is added on its own, apart from the main domain.

Next, the service asks you to prove the site is yours. Place the code and press the check button. Ownership is usually confirmed right away, though DNS records sometimes take a while to update, in which case simply try again later.

Which verification method to choose

Webmaster offers three methods. Your choice depends on what you can access.

For a custom-built site, DNS or the file is safer: switching a theme, editing the header or redesigning the pages will not touch them. A meta tag lives in the template and easily disappears during an update. Do not remove the code after a successful check. Yandex re-verifies ownership from time to time, and without the code your rights will lapse.

  • Meta tag: a line placed in the head of the home page. Works well if your CMS or SEO plugin has a field for the verification code
  • HTML file: a file with a given name uploaded to the site root. You need FTP or hosting panel access
  • DNS record: a TXT record added where the domain is registered. Often the only option on site builders where you cannot edit code

What to set up right after verification

While the reports are still empty, cover the basics. Do not worry about the silence in the first days: diagnostics appear quickly, while query and indexing statistics build up gradually. That is why it is best to connect the site before you start promotion, so the history accumulates in advance.

  • Submit sitemap.xml in the relevant section, using the full address
  • Check robots.txt to make sure the whole site or key sections are not blocked from indexing
  • Open diagnostics and look for critical problems
  • Check the region: for a business in Tashkent or another Uzbek city it should be detected correctly, and if needed set it, confirming with an address on the site
  • Turn on email notifications
  • Link your Yandex Metrica counter if you have one installed

Common mistakes when connecting a site

If a previous contractor already connected the site, that is not an obstacle: several accounts can confirm ownership at once. Add the site to your own account the same way. Give a contractor access through their own Yandex account rather than sharing a password, so it is easy to revoke later.

  • The address was added with http while the site opens on https
  • The meta tag landed in the page body through a visual editor instead of the head
  • A caching plugin serves an old home page without the tag, so clear the cache
  • The HTML file sits in a subfolder, or the server answers with a 404 or a redirect
  • A security service or firewall blocks the Yandex crawler
  • The verification code vanished when the theme was updated

Webmaster belongs in your site launch checklist

Connecting Webmaster should sit in the launch checklist alongside Google Search Console, analytics counters and a speed check. When a website is built turnkey, the domain, hosting and accounts are registered to the business owner from day one, and verification codes are placed so they survive updates. That is how we approach projects at markdev.

FAQ

Do I need Yandex Webmaster if my customers come from Google?

It is worth it. The service is free, and Russian-speaking users in Uzbekistan use Yandex. Webmaster also reveals indexing problems you would not notice otherwise.

Which verification method is the most reliable?

A DNS record or an HTML file, because neither depends on your site template. A meta tag is quicker to add but can disappear after a theme change or redesign.

Why are the reports empty after I add my site?

That is normal for a new connection. Diagnostics show up quickly, while query and indexing statistics accumulate gradually. Also check that you added the main address with the correct protocol.

Can I add a site that a previous contractor already connected?

Yes. Several accounts can confirm ownership at the same time. Add the site to your own account using the same method, so you do not depend on someone else's access.
