Start with the business goal, not the website
"Build an online store" can mean very different projects. One owner needs a large catalogue with a cart and online payment. Another needs a simple showcase where customers pick a product, leave a request and finish the details in Telegram. A third wants to stop losing orders buried in Instagram direct messages.
Before choosing a platform, answer three questions: what you sell and in what volume, how the customer pays and receives the goods, and who will run the shop every day. Also decide in advance how you will know it works: the number of completed orders, the cost of an order from ads, or the share of repeat purchases.
What a store selling in Uzbekistan needs
The local market sets its own expectations. Shoppers are used to particular payment methods, talk to sellers in messengers and open most sites on a phone. A sensible minimum looks like this:
- Mobile first: pages should load quickly even on a weak mobile connection, since much of the traffic comes from Instagram and Telegram.
- Payment through Click and Payme, plus cash on delivery, which many buyers still prefer.
- Clear delivery options: courier in Tashkent, shipping to the regions, pickup, with the cost visible before checkout.
- Russian and Uzbek versions, so customers choose their own language.
- A short checkout: few fields and phone-number login instead of a long registration.
- A Telegram notification to a manager for every new order.
- Product cards with real photos, stock status and prices in soums.
Website builder, ready-made CMS or custom development
A website builder suits a small range of products and a quick start. The trade-off is that integrations with local payment services and delivery companies can be limited, and your shop depends on the platform's plan.
A ready-made CMS is more flexible, but a developer still has to set up the integrations. Custom development makes sense when you need non-standard logic: layered discounts, wholesale prices, a link to a warehouse or accounting system.
You do not have to begin with the most complex option. Launching on a simple solution and growing it later is often sensible, as long as you can move the catalogue, the domain and customer data without losses.
What shapes the cost of an online store
The price is driven by the scope of work, not by the word "shop". Ask any contractor for an itemised estimate and compare the items rather than the total:
- design and page prototypes;
- the number of page types and features: filters, comparison, personal account, promo codes;
- integrations with payments, delivery and stock records;
- catalogue upload and formatting;
- basic SEO setup;
- domain, hosting and security certificate;
- support and improvements after launch.
Where your first customers will come from
A website does not bring traffic by itself. Instagram works as a showcase and a source of trust. A Telegram channel and bot help bring buyers back. Paid ads in Meta Ads and Google Ads reach people ready to buy now, while SEO builds a steadier flow over time.
Marketplaces such as Uzum and OLX can serve as an extra sales channel. There, though, the buyer remains the platform's customer, while your own store lets you collect contacts and build repeat sales without commissions or someone else's rules.
Set up analytics before launch
Configure counters and goals before going live: product view, add to cart, checkout started, order completed. You will then see where shoppers drop off: on the product page, in the cart or at payment.
Without this, advertising turns into guesswork. Once a week, compare orders in your CRM with analytics data. Gaps quickly reveal technical errors and weak points in the funnel.
Choosing a contractor and launching without surprises
A good contractor asks about your range, logistics and goals before naming a deadline or a price. Find out who is responsible after launch, how reporting works and what the support covers.
At markdev we build websites and online stores end to end, from structure and design to payment integration and analytics setup. If you would like to talk through your project and work out which format suits your business, leave a request and we will go through it together.
FAQ
Can I build an online store without a developer?
For a small range, a website builder can work. Integrations with Click, Payme, delivery and stock records usually need a specialist, especially if you plan to grow the shop.
Do I need a store if I already sell on Instagram?
Instagram brings customers, but orders in chats are easy to lose. Your own store gives you a catalogue, payment, order tracking and a customer base that does not depend on a social network's rules.
What affects the price of development?
Design, the number of features, payment and delivery integrations, catalogue size, SEO setup and support. A real figure is only possible after the task is discussed and an estimate is drawn up.
Should the store have an Uzbek version?
In most cases, yes. Two languages widen your audience, build trust especially in the regions, and help you appear in searches in both languages.
