Business Marketing in Uzbekistan: A Minimal System That Works

Business marketing in Uzbekistan is often done whenever there is a free moment: Instagram gets a burst of attention for a week, then goes quiet, leads arrive in waves, and at month-end nobody can say what actually worked. The fix is rarely a bigger budget. It is a small, repeatable system that a company of up to 50 people can build in a couple of months.

Start with customers, not ads

Before spending on promotion, find out who buys from you and why. Talk to around ten customers by phone, in Telegram or at the point of sale. Ask how they found you, who else they compared, and what almost stopped them from buying. Write the answers down close to verbatim, because the wording will later feed your ads and profile text.

Imagine a dental clinic owner in Tashkent learning that patients chose the clinic because of Instagram reviews and a same-day reply in Telegram, with price as a secondary factor. That single finding changes both the advertising and the front-desk routine.

Write the offer in one or two sentences

From those conversations comes your offer: what you sell, to whom, and how you differ. It should read the same on the shop sign, the Instagram bio, the website, an Uzum product card, an OLX listing and in the mouth of your salesperson.

If the offer is vague, even a well-chosen channel will disappoint.

Pick two or three channels and a clear storefront

You do not need to be everywhere. Choose the places where your customers already search and talk, and keep them active on a regular schedule. A rough guide:

  • Local business (café, salon, shop): maps, Instagram, a Telegram channel or customer chat
  • Services (clinic, training centre, repair): a website with Google search visibility, Instagram, targeted ads
  • Online retail: marketplaces and classifieds such as Uzum and OLX, plus your own Instagram
  • B2B: website, personal contacts, referrals, Telegram conversations

Track every lead

Your website or social profile is your storefront. It should make clear what you do, how you work, how to reach you and, if you accept Click or Payme, how to pay. An outdated price list or unanswered comments can cancel out the effect of any advertising.

Then comes the most important habit: record every enquiry. Note the date, the source, what the customer wanted and how it ended. A spreadsheet or a simple CRM is enough, as long as calls, Instagram Direct, Telegram and website forms all land in one place. Staff should get used to asking, “How did you hear about us?”

Without this record you cannot compare channels. One may bring plenty of enquiries and almost no sales, another fewer but real buyers. Deciding where to put money on gut feeling is expensive.

Use your customer base

Save customer contacts with their consent, together with purchase history. Then stay in touch when you have something relevant: new arrivals, seasonal offers, service reminders. A Telegram broadcast or a simple bot is often enough for this.

A repeat sale usually costs less than the first one, and satisfied customers bring their friends. In many categories word of mouth stays an important source of enquiries in Uzbekistan, and a customer base lets you work with it deliberately rather than by chance.

Review the numbers once a month

Set aside one hour a month and look at the figures calmly. Four blocks are enough:

  • How many enquiries each channel produced
  • How many of them turned into sales
  • What each channel cost: ad budget, contractor fees, staff time
  • What to strengthen, change or switch off

Who runs it, and what can wait

One responsible person is enough: a marketer or the owner. Execution, such as ad setup, design and copy, can go to a freelancer or agency, but goals and oversight should stay inside the company. What matters is consistency, not headcount.

At the start you do not need a complex CRM, expensive analytics, accounts on every network or a heavy brand book. Those make sense once the basic system works and you have data to decide with. Change only one or two things per month so you can tell what caused the result.

FAQ

Where should a small company start with marketing?

With customer conversations and a clear statement of your offer. Only then choose channels and launch ads, otherwise the budget goes into a blurry message.

How many channels do I need at the beginning?

Two or three where your customers definitely are. Doing them well and regularly beats a token presence on every network.

Do I need a CRM to track leads?

Not necessarily. A spreadsheet works if every enquiry goes in with its source and outcome. A CRM makes sense once volume is too high for manual tracking.

Can I hand marketing over to an agency completely?

You can outsource execution, but keep one responsible person inside the company. They set goals, check results and run the monthly review.
