What Figma actually does in a website project
In Figma, a team draws the screens of the future site, links them into a prototype and shows the business owner how everything will look and behave before any code is written. It is a cheap way to catch mistakes: moving a button in a mockup is far easier than reworking finished pages.
A mockup also works as an agreement between you and the contractor. When page structure, button copy and block order are approved in Figma, there are fewer arguments during development. But a mockup alone does not take orders, send leads to Telegram or show up in Google search. That takes development.
The stages from brief to finished mockup
A good process starts with questions, not pretty pictures: who is the buyer, where do they come from, and what should they do on the site? For a cafe in Tashkent it may be booking a table, for a wholesaler in Samarkand a price-list request, for an online shop paying for an order.
- Brief and site goal: what counts as a result — a call, a lead or a purchase.
- Page structure and wireframes with no colour or graphics.
- A design system: fonts, colours, buttons and forms in one component set.
- Desktop and mobile mockups, starting with mobile.
- A clickable prototype to test the logic with real people.
- Handoff to developers with sizes, spacing and assets.
What to build into the design for the Uzbek market
Much of the traffic from Instagram and Telegram arrives on smartphones, so the mobile screen is the main one, not an afterthought. The call button, the Telegram link and the quick route to payment should sit within thumb reach, not in the footer.
Check the languages. Russian and Uzbek copy runs to different lengths, and a button label that fits in one language can break a block in the other. Design both language versions from the start. Also confirm that your chosen font supports Cyrillic and Uzbek Latin with the o‘ and g‘ characters, or odd substitute glyphs will appear on the live site.
Plan the payment scenarios early too: Click, Payme, cash on delivery, instalments. Each one is a separate screen and error state, and it is better to draw them before development starts.
From mockup to a working site
Once the design is approved, layout and programming begin. This is where the platform is chosen: a site builder for a simple landing page, a CMS for a catalogue and blog, or custom development when you need a customer account and integrations with a CRM or stock system. Figma still helps here, because developers take sizes and components from it instead of guessing.
Figma has recently added ways to publish simple pages straight from a design file. That can work for a basic business card site, but if you need SEO settings, forms feeding a CRM, payments and analytics, plan for full development.
Set up analytics before launch: goals for leads and payments, counters, the Meta pixel. Without them you cannot tell whether the site pays back or the budget is simply being spent.
Building a website with Figma: where an owner should start
Start with the task, not the tool. Write down the action a visitor should take and how many of those actions you want. Then ask the contractor to show the page structure and a prototype, not just an attractive home page.
The price of a project comes from the number of unique screens, the complexity of interaction, the number of languages, integrations, and the work after the mockup: layout, content entry, SEO setup and testing. Ask for an estimate by stage. That shows what you are paying for and lets you begin with a minimal version.
When you accept the work, test the site on a real phone, on a slow mobile connection and in both languages. Make sure a lead reaches the place where a manager will see it, and that analytics records every enquiry.

FAQ
Can I build a whole website in Figma alone?
You can build the mockup and prototype. Figma can publish simple pages, but an online shop or service with payments, CRM and SEO usually needs separate development.
How is a Figma mockup different from a finished website?
A mockup is a picture and the logic of the screens. A finished site is code, hosting, forms, integrations, analytics and search settings.
Do I need a mockup for a simple site?
For a small landing page a short structure and one or two screens are enough. The more pages and scenarios you have, the more it pays to agree everything in a mockup first.
What should I give a designer before work starts?
The site goal, a description of your customers, your logo and brand colours, examples of sites you like, plus texts and photos. The contractor can advise on anything you are missing.
