Three ways to advertise on Instagram
Instagram is not a classifieds board. There is no category and price search like on OLX or Uzum. Your post is seen by followers and a small number of strangers through recommendations, so «placing an ad» usually means one of three things.
For a clothing store in Tashkent or a nail studio in Samarkand, the most reliable setup is a regularly updated account with paid ads boosting the best content. If you advertise an empty profile with three posts from two years ago, visitors will look around, find nothing convincing and leave.
- A regular post, story or reel on your account: reach is free, but limited and unpredictable.
- Boosting a post with the in-app button: quick, but with few settings, so it is easy to pay for impressions from people who will never buy.
- A campaign in Meta Ads Manager: full control over goal, audience, placements and budget.
What a working ad is made of
A paid ad is more than a nice picture. It is a chain, and one weak link can drain the whole budget. Check every element before launch.
A useful habit is to prepare several versions of the visual and the copy and let the numbers decide, instead of arguing about which one looks better. Often the simplest wins: a real video from your shop or workshop beats a retouched studio shot.
- Audience: city or district, age, interests. A local business has no reason to show ads to the whole country.
- Visual: a real photo or short video of the product, the process or the result. The first seconds decide whether someone stays.
- Offer: what exactly you are proposing and why to message you today. «Best prices» is not an offer.
- Copy: terms, district or address, deadline, and the price in sums if you are comfortable showing it.
- Call to action: one clear step, such as messaging you in Direct, opening Telegram or leaving a phone number.
- Campaign objective: messages, clicks or leads. Your choice shapes who Instagram shows the ad to.
Where to send people after the click
Most customers are lost after the ad, not before it. Someone taps, and nobody greets them. In Uzbekistan, buyers are used to writing in Direct or Telegram and expect a fast reply. If messages sit unanswered until evening, the ad money is wasted.
Pick one entry point and prepare it. That could be a profile with a clear bio and up-to-date highlights, a Telegram bot that takes orders, or a website that accepts Click and Payme if you sell online. Prepare answers to common questions about price, delivery, address and opening hours. Do not send people to five places at once; too many choices put them off.
Common mistakes at launch
Nearly all failed launches look alike. The problems rarely come from the platform itself. They come from preparation and expectations.
- Promoting everything without choosing a single goal.
- Running ads without tracking, then not knowing where a customer came from.
- Changing settings every day so the campaign never gathers enough data.
- Leaving comments and direct messages unanswered.
- Judging results by likes and reach instead of enquiries and sales.
- Using borrowed or obviously stock photos that do not build trust.
How to tell whether your ads pay off
Agree on metrics before you start. A small business usually needs just three: what one enquiry costs, what share of enquiries turns into a purchase, and what an average customer brings in. From these you can work out how much you can pay per enquiry and still stay profitable.
For those numbers to exist you need basic analytics: UTM tags in links, a pixel on your website, and a spreadsheet or CRM that records the source of every enquiry. Without it you cannot tell whether advertising pays back or the budget is simply being spent. Be cautious with contractors who report on «feelings» rather than figures.
Where to start
A practical order of work: tidy up the profile, prepare several pieces of content, choose one goal, run a small test on a limited audience, and after a week or two review the numbers to decide what to scale and what to stop.

FAQ
Can I advertise on Instagram for free?
Yes, regular posts, stories and reels cost nothing. But organic reach is limited and depends on how active the account is, so a free format rarely produces a steady flow of customers by itself.
What is the difference between boosting a post and using Ads Manager?
The Boost button is simpler and faster but offers few settings. Ads Manager lets you choose the goal, audience and placements precisely and compare ad variants, which suits regular advertising.
How much does Instagram advertising cost?
You set the budget yourself. The cost of one enquiry depends on your niche, competition, creative quality, audience and how quickly you reply to customers. An honest figure is impossible without analysing your case.
Do I need a website to advertise on Instagram?
Not necessarily. Many local businesses do fine with an account and Direct or a Telegram bot. A website helps if you sell online with Click or Payme payments, or want more precise tracking of where leads come from.
