Why there is no single price for an online store
A shop with thirty products in one category and a catalogue with thousands of items, filters and stock tracking are very different products, even though both are called an online store. A fixed price list published without a brief is closer to a hook than to a quote. A more honest way to budget is to start from the scope of work.
For a business owner in Tashkent or in the regions, a more useful question is: what must the shop do on day one, and what can wait until the first sales come in? Answering that usually cuts the starting budget more than hunting for the cheapest developer.
What the cost is made of
Each item below can be priced separately. That is why a good quote reads like a list of tasks with explanations, not a single line saying “website: X sum”.
- Platform: a hosted builder, a ready-made CMS or custom development.
- Design: an adapted template or a unique layout built around your brand.
- Catalogue: number of categories, product page structure, filters, size and colour variants.
- Cart and checkout, customer accounts, promo codes and discounts.
- Integrations: payments, delivery, stock accounting, CRM, notifications.
- Languages: Russian and Uzbek versions, sometimes English too.
- Content: photos, descriptions, bulk upload of products from a spreadsheet.
Three routes: builder, CMS template, custom build
A site builder gives the fastest start and the lowest outlay. It works well for testing demand with a small range. The limits show up when you need non-standard logic, local payment methods or flexible SEO settings.
A ready-made CMS with a template sits in the middle: more freedom and room for plug-in modules, but the result depends heavily on who configures it. A custom build makes sense when the business has unusual processes, such as separate wholesale and retail pricing, a link to an accounting system, or a large catalogue that changes often.
Choose the platform for the next year or two, not only for today’s budget. Moving a store from one system to another later almost always costs more than starting carefully on the right one.
What matters on the Uzbek market
Customers are used to paying with Click and Payme, placing an order from a phone in a couple of taps and clarifying details in Telegram. So your quote should include payment integrations, cash on delivery, a solid mobile version, prices in sums and instant Telegram alerts to your manager about new orders. Delivery is its own task: couriers inside Tashkent, shipping to the regions and calculating cost by address.
Decide in advance where you already sell. If you have an Instagram account or listings on OLX and Uzum, your own store lets you avoid depending on someone else’s rules and commissions and helps you build a customer base. It does not replace traffic, though: a shop with no advertising or search optimisation is simply invisible.
Costs that show up after launch
Launch gets discussed in detail while promotion is pushed to “later”. The result is a finished shop with no orders. Plan for what comes after development as well.
- Domain and hosting, paid on a recurring basis.
- Technical support and updates.
- Content: photo shoots, copywriting, new product pages.
- Advertising and SEO so that buyers actually reach the site.
- Payment service commissions.
- Fixes after the first orders, when you can see where customers drop off.
How to compare quotes from developers
Ask for a quote broken down by stage: brief, prototype, design, front-end and back-end development, content loading, testing, launch. Clarify what is included: rights to the code and design, access credentials, training on the admin panel, warranty support. When two quotes differ sharply, it is almost always the scope that differs, not the developer’s appetite.
Agree on metrics before you start: how many orders and what cost per lead are acceptable to you. Without basic analytics, meaning counters, goals and traffic source tracking, you cannot tell whether the store pays back or the budget is simply being spent. Before launch, run a full test order through the cart, payment, emails and notifications.
How to start the conversation with a contractor
Prepare a short brief: a list of categories and the approximate number of products, payment and delivery methods, two or three sites you like, and what you expect from the first months. With that, any studio can estimate faster and more accurately.

FAQ
Can I get an exact price without a brief?
No, only a rough guide. The exact amount depends on the platform, number of products, integrations and amount of design work. The more specific the brief, the closer the quote is to the final spend.
Is a site builder really cheaper?
At the start, usually yes, especially with a small catalogue. But if you later need local payment systems, complex pricing logic or careful SEO setup, the cost of rework and migration can become significant.
How long does it take to build an online store?
It depends on catalogue size, the number of integrations and how quickly you provide photos, descriptions and prices. Delays often come from content preparation rather than development.
Do I keep paying after the launch?
Yes. At a minimum there are the domain and hosting, plus support, updates and promotion. It is better to include these in the budget from the start.
