How to Sell Furniture on a Marketplace in Uzbekistan

If you want to sell furniture on a marketplace in Uzbekistan, expect a harder job than selling phone cases or cosmetics. Buyers cannot sit on the sofa or open the wardrobe, and returning a bulky item is costly. Your listing and logistics have to do the work of a showroom.

Why furniture is a difficult category online

A phone case can go back in an envelope. A wardrobe cannot: it is heavy, takes up warehouse space, has to be carried up to an apartment, and a return means arranging transport all over again. One mistake in a listing can cost you a bad review and two courier trips.

Buyers also decide slowly. They compare several offers, send links to family on Telegram, and measure the hallway to see whether a cabinet will fit. Your job is to answer in advance every question that would otherwise send them to a shop or to a carpenter's Instagram page.

Before you list anything, decide what sets you apart: price, design, delivery speed or your own workshop. Without that, your listing gets lost among dozens of similar ones.

How to sell furniture on a marketplace without a showroom

Start with measurements, because a piece that does not fit is the most common reason for disappointment. A single line like “120 by 60” is not enough. The buyer needs to know whether the box will pass through the entrance and the lift, and whether the sofa fits when unfolded. Include:

  • width, depth and height when assembled, in centimetres;
  • dimensions when unfolded or opened: sleeping area, open doors, pulled-out drawers;
  • seat height, clearance under a table, depth of inner shelves;
  • size and weight of every box if the item arrives in several parts;
  • a dimension diagram placed directly on an image.

Photos and video

You need two kinds of shots: neutral-background and in a room. The first shows shape and colour, the second shows scale. Add close-ups of fabric, stitching, hardware and legs, shots with drawers open and the sofa unfolded, and a short video if there is a transformation mechanism.

Colour deserves special care. Shoot in daylight and name the shade in words, since a mismatch between photo and reality often leads to a return. Photos from real buyers persuade more than studio ones, so ask your first customers to post a picture from home.

Materials, assembly and warranty

Instead of “high-quality materials”, say what the frame is made of, what the upholstery is, what fills the sofa and what finish covers the fronts. Explain care and state the warranty terms honestly, including what is not covered.

Most cabinet furniture arrives flat-packed. Tell buyers whether assembly is needed, which tools they will need, and whether there is a manual or video. If you offer assembly as a service, describe the terms and how to order it.

Delivery and packaging

Find out how the platform handles oversized goods: which fulfilment schemes exist, how fees are calculated, and whether the warehouse accepts such sizes. Often it is easier to keep furniture at your own site and deliver yourself or through partners, but then deadlines are your responsibility.

State clearly what delivery includes: to the entrance, to the door or with carrying up to the floor. Give separate timeframes for Tashkent and the regions. A surprise charge for carrying upstairs is a quick route to a bad review.

Packaging must survive several rounds of loading: protect corners, glass and mirrors, use thick cardboard and film, and label every box in a multi-box set. Test it on a real trip before taking volume orders.

Reviews and returns

Negative reviews for furniture usually fall into three groups: damage in transit, missing parts and a colour that differs from the photo. Reply to each one and offer a fix, whether a replacement part, compensation or a repeat delivery. Future buyers read not just the rating but how you handle problems.

Decide in advance how refunds work, including for payments made through Click or Payme, and write it down. Clear rules ease the fear of an expensive purchase.

Where to start and how to check the economics

Begin with compact items: bedside tables, shelves, chairs, small tables and kids' furniture. They are easier to photograph, pack and deliver while you refine the process. Add sofas and wardrobes once the routine is stable.

Before launch, build into the price the marketplace commission, packaging, delivery, carrying, expected returns and in-platform advertising. A marketplace is often one channel next to Instagram, Telegram and OLX, so it matters to know which one brings profit, not just turnover.

FAQ

What furniture should I list on a marketplace first?

Compact items that travel well: bedside tables, shelves, chairs, small tables and children's furniture. Add sofas and wardrobes after your packaging and delivery work reliably.

Which dimensions should a furniture listing include?

Assembled width, depth and height, unfolded and inner dimensions, plus the size and weight of the packaging so buyers know if it fits through doors and lifts.

How can I reduce furniture returns?

Give exact sizes, photograph colour in daylight, explain assembly and delivery terms, pack sturdily and resolve problems from reviews quickly.

Is a marketplace enough to sell furniture?

Usually it works best alongside other channels such as Instagram, Telegram and OLX. Track profit per channel and put effort where the results are.
