What people mean by a spy bot
One search phrase hides very different goals. The first is secretly reading someone's messages, finding their location or looking a person up by phone number. The second is keeping an eye on your own business: not missing an Instagram lead, noticing an unpaid Click or Payme order, seeing when your brand is mentioned. The third is watching the market: competitor prices, promotions and public posts.
The first goal has nothing to do with marketing, and we do not help with it. The second and third are ordinary, highly automatable work, which is exactly what business bots are for.
Where the legal line sits
Covert access to someone's messages, account or location violates privacy of correspondence and private life. Collecting and processing personal data without the person's consent also conflicts with Uzbekistan's personal data legislation. Telegram itself prohibits using bots to invade privacy, and such bots get banned.
There is a practical side too. Services that promise to track a person by phone number are very often scams: you hand over money or access to your own account and get nothing, or get your profile compromised. For a company there is a reputational risk as well, because a story about a business spying on customers or staff travels fast through Telegram channels.
The monitoring a business actually needs
If the real aim is to keep a finger on the pulse, a Telegram bot does it transparently and within the rules. These are the tasks we most often see for companies in Uzbekistan:
- Instant alerts to managers about a new lead from your website, Meta Ads campaign or Instagram.
- Notifications about payments, cancellations and stuck orders, with the bot checking statuses for you.
- A daily digest of sales, stock levels and ad spend sent straight to the owner's chat.
- Response-time control: the bot nudges the team when a customer has waited longer than you allow.
- Post-purchase ratings and feedback, with an alert on negative responses.
- Reminders for the team about tasks, meetings and deadlines.
Competitor monitoring: what is acceptable
Watching the market is fine as long as you use only open information: public channels, Instagram pages, OLX listings, Uzum product cards and company websites. A bot can collect new posts, record price and promotion changes, and send a short digest once a day.
What you cannot do is enter private chats, use someone else's account, impersonate another person or gather the personal data of a competitor's customers. A simple test: if anyone can see the information without a password or an invitation, you can analyse it. If you have to get around a protection, it is no longer monitoring.
Employees and transparency
Team oversight is a separate matter. The lawful route is tracking work metrics inside work systems: how many leads were handled, how fast tasks were closed, who is on shift. Staff should know about this in advance, ideally through an internal policy or contract. Covert surveillance of personal accounts and chats does not improve discipline. It destroys trust and exposes the employer to legal risk.
How to brief a bot developer
Start with a question rather than a feature list: which decision do you want to make faster? Then describe where the bot gets its data (CRM, website, payment system, spreadsheet), who receives alerts and when, and which actions should be possible directly in the chat. Decide in advance who can access the data and what is stored on the server.
Ask the developer how tokens and customer data will be protected, and request a report on what the bot actually did: how many notifications went out, how many leads were handled. Without that basic analytics you cannot tell whether the project pays off.
Where to start
The markdev team builds Telegram bots for businesses in Uzbekistan, from lead alerts to links with a CRM, payments and ads. If you want control over sales, orders and the market within the law, describe your task and we will tell you which bot you really need and which would only waste budget.
FAQ
Is it legal to track a person with a Telegram bot?
No. Secret access to someone's messages, account or location violates privacy and personal data rules. Only actions with the person's consent or based on open data are acceptable.
Do phone number tracking bots on Telegram work?
Usually not. They are most often scams that take your money or account access and deliver nothing of what they promise.
Can a bot monitor competitors?
Yes, if it works only with public information such as open channels, website and marketplace prices, and social media posts. Private chats and other people's accounts are off limits.
Which bot helps control sales?
A notification bot. It reports new leads, payments and stuck orders, sends daily summaries and reminds managers to reply to customers.
Can I monitor employees with a bot?
You can track work metrics in work systems if the team is told in advance. Covert surveillance of personal chats is not acceptable.
