Design is more than appearance
When an owner asks for a site to be drawn, they usually mean how it looks. A visitor judges something else: is it clear what you sell, can they find the price or the contact button quickly, do they have to guess the next step. All of that is design, in a wider sense than decoration.
That is why a good layout starts with questions rather than a color palette. Who comes to the site: a wholesale buyer from OLX or Uzum, a parent choosing a kids' center, a manager comparing three suppliers? What should they do in the end? The answers set the page structure, the order of blocks and what sits on the first screen.
The stages of a website design project
If a contractor shows a finished picture without any preparation, be careful. A sound process usually looks like this:
- Brief and goals: how the site helps the business, which action counts as success, which pages are needed.
- Structure and prototype: a page scheme without color or decoration, so you discuss logic rather than taste.
- Visual concept: brand colors, typography, photo style, examples of key blocks.
- Page layouts for desktop and phone, with the phone treated as the main screen.
- States: hover, form errors, empty and loading blocks.
- Handoff to the developer and a check that the built page matches the layout.
What matters on the Uzbek market
Most traffic comes from phones, often on an unstable connection. Heavy banners, video on the first screen and a dozen fonts slow a page down, and a person coming from an Instagram ad will leave before it loads. Design has to be light as well as attractive.
Language is the second point. If your audience reads both Uzbek and Russian, the layout should be planned for two languages from the start: text length differs, and a button that looks tidy in one version can break in the other. The third is the usual contact channels. Telegram, call, map and Click or Payme buttons should be visible without scrolling.
What drives the price
There is no single price, and any figure quoted without knowing the task is misleading. In practice the cost depends on the number of unique pages and templates, the depth of work (prototype plus concept, or styling only), custom illustration or photo shoots, the number of languages and the complexity of interactive parts such as calculators or a filtered catalog.
Ask also whether revisions after feedback are included and how many rounds are planned. Disputed costs usually appear there, not in the drawing itself.
How to judge a layout before development
You do not need to be a designer to check a layout. A few simple questions are enough:
- Within five seconds, is it clear what you offer and for whom?
- Is there one obvious main button, or five equal ones competing?
- Is the text readable on a small phone without zooming?
- Are there trust signals: reviews, real photos, address, documents?
- Is the form short, or does it ask for data you do not need for a first contact?
- Will the site look consistent with your Instagram page and your signage?
Common mistakes clients make
The first is choosing by portfolio without asking what result the client got. A beautiful site with no leads stays just a beautiful site. The second is projecting the manager's taste onto the audience: what you like does not have to work for the buyer. The third is skipping analytics, so after launch nobody knows which blocks help and which get in the way.
Agree in advance how you will measure the outcome: number of leads, share of visitors who reach the form, cost per inquiry from ads. Then the design can be improved with data rather than impressions.
Where to start
Collect examples of sites you like and dislike, and write down the single action a visitor should take. With that, a contractor can propose a structure and name the scope honestly.
At markdev we build websites end to end, from prototype and layout to launch and analytics setup. If you want to discuss your task and work out how much design you really need, leave a request and we will go through it without inflated promises.
FAQ
How is website design different from development?
Design defines structure, appearance and page logic. Development turns the layout into a working site with forms, a catalog and an admin panel. The stages are closely linked, so it is easier to run them within one team.
Can I order design without development?
Yes, many studios and freelancers deliver finished layouts. Agree on file formats in advance and make sure the developer can build the layout without distortion, especially the phone version.
How much does website design cost?
It depends on page count, depth of work, languages and interactive features. An exact figure is only possible after a brief, so be cautious about a fixed price quoted without questions about your task.
Do I need a separate design for phones?
Yes. Most visitors come from mobile devices, so the phone layout should be designed separately and first, not made by shrinking the desktop version.
