WordPress SEO in Uzbekistan: a practical guide for owners

WordPress SEO does not begin with backlinks or blog posts. It begins with a basic question: can search engines see your site, and do they understand which pages matter? Many service websites, clinics, studios and online shops in Tashkent and the regions run on WordPress. The platform is flexible, but that flexibility produces the same avoidable mistakes again and again. Here is what to check, and in what order.

Make sure search engines can actually see the site

During development, developers tick a box in the Reading settings that asks search engines not to index the site. After launch it is often left on, and the site stays invisible in Google for weeks even though the agency has handed it over. Check this first. It takes a minute.

Next, look at the site address. It should load over HTTPS, and one version of the domain, with or without www, should be the main one while the other redirects to it. Otherwise search engines see two copies of your site.

Choose permalinks before you fill the site with content. A structure with the page name in the URL is better than a post number or a date. If you change it on a live site, every address changes, and without 301 redirects you lose the traffic you have earned.

The SEO plugin: a tool, not a guarantee

Core WordPress gives you limited control over the title and description of each page, so sites use an SEO plugin, usually Yoast SEO or Rank Math. It sets titles and descriptions, builds the sitemap, adds canonical tags, controls archive indexing and outputs basic structured data.

Run only one SEO plugin. Two at once clash and duplicate tags. And do not treat the green traffic light as a quality score: it checks formal signals, not whether the page answers what a customer is really asking.

Site structure and duplicate pages

For a service business, a sensible setup is to build commercial pages as pages with a clear hierarchy, and keep the blog and news as posts.

WordPress also creates many archives on its own: by category, tag, author and date, plus separate pages for uploaded media files. On a small site, most of these repeat each other and give visitors nothing.

  • Pages: services, about, contacts, and child pages for each specific service
  • Posts: blog articles and news
  • Categories: by topic, each with a short description
  • Tags: only if they genuinely help navigation
  • Author and date archives: usually set to noindex in the SEO plugin
  • Attachment pages: redirect to the post or block them

Speed: where WordPress most often loses

Many of your customers arrive from a phone, coming from Instagram, Telegram or search, and mobile internet in the regions is not always stable. A slow site loses enquiries before a search engine ever judges it.

The usual causes are well known: a heavy all-in-one theme, dozens of plugins, uncompressed photos, weak hosting and no caching. Pick hosting built for WordPress and test how fast the site responds from Uzbekistan specifically.

  • A lightweight theme instead of a universal builder with hundreds of features
  • Removing plugins nobody uses
  • Caching through a plugin or at server level
  • Image compression and modern formats
  • Re-testing speed after every new plugin

Security and rules for your team

A hacked site can fill up with spam pages and hidden links, and Google may show a warning or drop it from results. Keep the core, theme and plugins updated, use strong passwords, limit the number of administrators and keep backups. Delete unused themes and plugins, because even a deactivated one can carry a vulnerability.

If several people work on the site, agree who installs plugins, who changes the theme and who publishes content. Many problems start with a plugin someone installed to try out and then forgot.

Analytics and content: what growth is built on

Verify the site in Google Search Console and Yandex Webmaster, submit the sitemap, connect analytics and set up goals: a form request, a phone call, a click to your Telegram, and for a shop, payment through Click or Payme. Without goals you cannot tell which pages bring customers.

Technical settings are only the foundation. What follows is pages that answer real searches: a separate page for each service, in Russian and Uzbek where your audience needs both, useful blog articles, and regular updates of older material. WordPress makes publishing easy, so use that.

FAQ

Why is my WordPress site not showing in Google?

The most common reason is the Reading setting that asks search engines not to index the site, left on from development. Also check that the site is verified in Search Console and the sitemap has been submitted.

Yoast SEO or Rank Math: which should I choose?

Both cover the basics: titles, descriptions, sitemap and indexing control. What matters more is using just one and configuring it deliberately.

Can I change the permalink structure on a live site?

You can, but every URL will change. You need 301 redirects from the old addresses to the new ones, otherwise the site loses traffic and rankings.

Does the number of plugins affect SEO?

Indirectly, yes. Each plugin adds code and requests, which can slow the site. Keep only the ones you need and test speed after installing new ones.
