Why a Google Maps listing matters locally
People search for things like “dentist near me”, “café in Chilanzar” or “car service in Sergeli” and look straight at the map: distance, reviews, photos, opening hours. On Android phones Google Maps is often already installed, so many searches start right there. If your business is missing, a customer two blocks away may never learn you exist.
The listing is managed through Google Business Profile. It does not replace Instagram, Telegram or your OLX and Uzum presence. Those channels attract attention; the map helps a person actually reach your door.
How to add business to Google Maps step by step
Start by checking whether a listing already exists. Search by name and address: a user or Google itself may have created it. If it exists, do not create a new one. Claim the existing listing, otherwise reviews and data get split across duplicates and none of them builds strength.
If nothing exists, go through these steps:
- Sign in with a company-owned Google account, not an employee’s personal one.
- Open Google Business Profile and choose to add a business.
- Enter the name exactly as it appears on your signage, without words like “cheap”, “Tashkent” or a list of services.
- Pick the most precise primary category, for example “Dental clinic” rather than the generic “Medical center”. You can add secondary ones later.
- Enter the address and place the pin on the entrance, not the middle of the building. If you travel to customers, set a service area and hide the address.
- Add a working phone number and website. The number should match the one on your site.
Verification and the video option
Google needs proof that you really represent the business. The options depend on the business type and region: a call or SMS, email, a video recording, sometimes a postcard. The system shows which methods are available during the process; you cannot simply pick one. Until the profile is verified, many edits may not go live, so do not leave it half finished.
If Google asks for a video, prepare in advance and record it in one continuous take:
- the street name or a recognisable landmark nearby;
- the signage and entrance from outside;
- the interior and your work area;
- equipment, the cash desk or documents that confirm the activity.
Fill in the profile so it actually works
After verification, complete everything the platform offers. Set opening hours, including holiday changes. Write a description of what you do and who you serve, without slogans or links. Add services or products, attributes such as parking and accessibility, and payment methods: cash, Click, Payme.
Photos matter as much as text: facade, entrance, interior, examples of your work, the team. Upload a logo and cover image. Then ask your first customers for reviews. The profile gives you a short review link you can send in Telegram. Reply to every review, including critical ones, calmly and to the point.
Common mistakes
The same problems keep appearing from business to business:
- creating a duplicate instead of claiming the existing listing;
- stuffing keywords into the name, such as “Dentistry Tashkent cheap”;
- tying the profile to a personal account of an employee who later leaves;
- showing a home address when customers do not visit it;
- using a virtual office or mailbox address;
- giving every branch identical details so listings get confused.
Your listing, your website and SEO
The listing and your website work as a pair. Name, address and phone number should match on the site, Google, Yandex, 2GIS and social media. Differences lower trust with both people and search engines. The site should have a contact page with the address, separate pages for services and a link to the listing, while the profile links to the most relevant page.
Check profile statistics monthly and watch for suggested edits from other users. If verification keeps failing, someone else has claimed your listing, or you want to connect it with SEO for your site, talk it through with markdev. FAQ
Does it cost anything to add a business to Google Maps?
Google Business Profile itself is free. You only pay if you hire a specialist to set up and maintain the profile.
Can I add a business without a website?
Yes, a website is optional. A site makes the listing look more trustworthy, though. Without one, you can link your Instagram or Telegram page.
What if a listing already exists but I did not create it?
Do not create a new one. Find the existing listing, use the option to claim it as the owner and complete verification. That keeps its reviews and data.
Why is my profile not getting verified?
Common causes are an address that does not match reality, missing signage, extra words in the name, or a video recorded with cuts. Fix the details and retry using the method Google offers.
