Dynamic Retargeting in Uzbekistan: Yandex Direct and Meta

Dynamic retargeting means that someone who looked at a specific sofa, tour or apartment on your site later sees an ad for that exact item, not a generic banner. Yandex Direct calls its version offer retargeting, and Meta Ads runs the same idea through product catalogs. Here is how it works, who needs it and what to check before spending a sum.

What dynamic retargeting actually does

Ordinary retargeting treats every visitor the same: one banner for everyone who opened the site. Dynamic retargeting works from a catalog. Each product, service, property or tour has its own ID, title, price, photo and link. When a visitor opens an item page, the analytics counter records which ID was viewed.

Later the ad system finds that person and builds an ad from the catalog data. They see the photo, name and price of the thing they were considering. It feels like a reminder rather than an interruption, which is why it tends to suit shoppers who browse many items before deciding.

In Yandex Direct this is called offer retargeting, where an offer is one catalog item. Campaign types and menu names change from time to time, so check the current setup in the platform's help section.

What you need before launch

The mechanism rests on three parts. If one is weak, the whole thing misfires.

  • A feed or catalog with ID, title, link, image, price, availability and category, updated automatically so sold-out items do not appear in ads.
  • Tracking that sends product views, add-to-cart and purchases together with the item ID, through Yandex Metrica or the Meta Pixel.
  • Matching IDs: the code on the website and the code in the feed must be identical, or the system cannot link a visit to an item.
  • A working connection: the feed is accepted without errors and the counter or pixel is attached to the campaign.

Segments and time windows

The real strength of the format is talking to people differently depending on where they stopped. Typical groups are viewed an item only, added to cart without buying, already purchased, and browsed a category without choosing a product.

Each group deserves its own window and bid. People who abandoned a cart are warm, so remind them quickly. Buyers should be excluded or offered complementary items. Someone who just bought a phone case does not need an ad for the same case.

Window length depends on how fast people decide. For cheap items bought within a day or two, a long window only irritates. For furniture, appliances or property the cycle is longer. If customers pay through Click or Payme, make sure a successful payment is recorded as a purchase, otherwise buyers stay in your audience.

Which businesses should use it

It pays off where there is a real catalog and people compare many options: an online store with a wide range, a property database, a car dealer, a travel agency, a rental service. The more choice, the more valuable a reminder about one specific item.

If you offer only three to five services, such as a clinic with a few departments, dynamic retargeting is usually overkill. Standard retargeting with a separate ad per service is simpler and cheaper to maintain.

One more practical question is where your audience actually lives. For many local businesses in Uzbekistan, most contact happens in Instagram, Telegram and Google search. Check in your analytics how many visitors you could even reach through the Yandex network before building a complex setup around it.

Common mistakes and a pre-launch check

Most problems repeat from project to project, and you can catch them before any budget is spent.

  • The feed is not refreshed, so ads show items that are out of stock.
  • IDs in analytics and in the feed do not match.
  • Weak photos and long titles full of technical codes.
  • Buyers are not excluded from the audience.
  • The window is too long for fast-selling products.
  • Unprofitable items stay in the feed and eat impressions.

How to verify and monitor results

Before launch, compare a handful of feed items with the live site: price, availability, link and image. Confirm that product views and add-to-cart events send the right ID. Make sure the platform accepted the feed without errors and that the number of accepted items is close to what you expect, then open the ad preview to see whether photos are cropped and titles are readable.

After launch, look at which items get shown most and which lead to purchases. Judge the campaign by margin, not only revenue, and remove products that never sell or are constantly unavailable.

Dynamic retargeting in Meta Ads

The same logic runs in Instagram and Facebook through a product catalog, the pixel and ads that insert the items someone viewed. If your customers browse in Instagram and then message you in Telegram, this is often a more natural fit than building a separate system around Yandex Direct.

FAQ

How is dynamic retargeting different from standard retargeting?

Standard retargeting shows one general ad to all visitors. Dynamic retargeting shows the specific product or service a person viewed, with its photo and price.

Do I need a product feed?

Yes. Ads are built from the feed, and analytics links a visitor to an item by its ID. If the IDs do not match, the format does not work.

Can service businesses use it?

Yes, if each service has its own page, image and description and there are enough services. With only a few, standard retargeting is simpler.

What should I do about people who already bought?

Exclude them or show complementary products. Advertising something they have just bought wastes budget and annoys the customer.

Is there an equivalent in Meta Ads?

Yes. Meta's catalog-based dynamic ads use the pixel to record views and show the right items in Instagram and Facebook.
