Why a business owner should open Diagnostics
Yandex still brings search traffic in Uzbekistan alongside Google. If your site becomes unreachable for its robot, you lose enquiries silently: Instagram and Telegram keep working, but customers stop arriving from search.
Diagnostics collects the problems the robot found by itself and lists them in one place. It is not a full SEO audit. Think of it as a thermometer: it tells you quickly whether the site has a technical fever. Open it whenever you log into Webmaster, and first thing on the day you notice fewer enquiries from search.
How to do a Yandex Webmaster site check, step by step
First add the site to Webmaster and verify ownership with a meta tag, a file in the site root or a DNS record. A developer can do this quickly if you have hosting or domain access. Then work in this order:
- Open Diagnostics and see which messages exist and at which level.
- For each message, open the example pages and reproduce the problem yourself, for instance by checking the server response.
- Look for the cause. It is usually a recent change: a CMS update, a move to another host, a new plugin.
- Hand the task to your developer with a description and page URLs.
- Once fixed, request a recheck.
- Look at the neighbouring sections too: indexing, crawl statistics, security and violations.
Severity levels: what to fix first
Messages are grouped by seriousness. Labels in the interface may change, but the logic stays the same: work from the top down.
- Critical: the site is unreachable for the robot, the server returns errors, indexing is blocked, or security threats were found. Deal with these the same day.
- Serious: errors in robots.txt or the sitemap, main mirror problems, an invalid SSL certificate, many identical titles, many pages returning errors. Aim for within a week.
- Recommendations: meta descriptions, mobile version, site icon, region, Metrica connection. They do not block indexing but make your search snippet tidier. Handle them as planned work.
Typical situations on Uzbek business sites
A site moves from a test address to the live domain, but robots.txt still carries the blanket block set during development, and Yandex reports that indexing is closed. An online shop's filters and URL parameters create copies of the same page with identical titles. An SSL certificate expires, and the browser greets the visitor with a warning before they see the catalogue.
Another common case is a site on weak or overloaded hosting that sometimes returns a server error. To a customer in Tashkent or a regional city that simply means the site is down, and they message another company on Telegram. If the same messages keep returning, the cause is usually the foundation: the engine, the hosting, the settings.
Rechecks and notifications
After a fix, you can request a recheck in Diagnostics. The message will not vanish instantly, because the robot needs time to crawl again. If it stays, the robot still sees the problem: perhaps the fix is only partial, or an old cached version is being served. Open the examples again and check the server response.
Turn on email notifications and add at least two recipients: the owner or marketer and a technical person. That way you hear about downtime before you notice fewer leads.
What Diagnostics will not show
An empty report means only that Yandex sees no technical problems. It does not mean the site is optimised. Diagnostics does not judge:
- whether your copy matches what customers search for;
- which pages are weaker than competitors';
- site structure and internal linking;
- thin pages and pages competing with each other;
- the customer path to an enquiry, or conversion.
A working routine and the next step
Open Diagnostics weekly, send critical items to the developer immediately, request a recheck after each fix and review recommendations monthly. If Yandex traffic drops, start the investigation with Diagnostics and the security section.
If the same messages keep coming back and the site was assembled ad hoc or has not been updated for a long time, it may be time to fix the base. At markdev we build websites in Uzbekistan from scratch to launch, and we can look at your diagnostics to tell you what a quick fix will solve and what needs a rebuild. FAQ
How often should I check Yandex Webmaster Diagnostics?
Weekly for new messages and monthly for recommendations works well. If traffic from Yandex drops, open it straight away.
The message is still there after I fixed the problem. What now?
Give the robot time to recrawl, then reopen the example pages and check the server response. Often the fix is only partial or a stale cached version is being served.
Is Yandex Webmaster enough to check a whole website?
No. It shows technical issues Yandex can see, but not content quality, structure, competition or conversion. You also need a crawler, analytics and a specialist review.
