Why Yandex Webmaster matters in Uzbekistan
For most websites in Uzbekistan, Google brings the bulk of search traffic. Still, Russian-speaking users in Tashkent, Samarkand and other cities keep using Yandex, and in B2B, real estate, auto parts, equipment and local services that audience can be commercially meaningful. If your site is not connected to Webmaster, you have no idea how well that part of search can reach you.
There is a practical side too. The tool often surfaces issues that are easy to miss elsewhere: a site left closed to robots after development, a server that drops out at night, or a homepage that opens at several different addresses. Comparing it with Google Search Console is useful. If a problem appears in both, it almost certainly lives on your site, not in one search engine.
How to add and verify your site
You need a Yandex account. Log in, add the site, then prove ownership with whichever method you have access to:
- a meta tag placed in the homepage code;
- an HTML file uploaded to the site root;
- a DNS record added at your domain registrar.
First settings after verification
Verification alone only starts data collection. A site can open with or without www, over http or https, and search engines treat these as separate addresses. One version should be primary, with the rest redirecting to it. Add every variant to Webmaster and check which one is set as the main mirror.
- Submit your sitemap and confirm it reads without errors.
- Run robots.txt through the built-in analyzer to make sure it does not block the whole site.
- Set the site's region. For commercial websites this affects how they appear in regional results.
- Turn on email notifications so critical problems reach a mailbox someone actually reads.
Reports worth checking regularly
There are many sections, but a business owner needs only a few. Open them weekly, and after any major change to the site:
- Diagnostics: critical and possible problems such as site unavailability, robots.txt errors, a missing sitemap and security issues.
- Pages in search: how many pages are indexed, which were added or removed, and why. The history helps tie a drop to a specific event, such as moving to a new CMS.
- Search queries: impressions, clicks and positions in Yandex. Group them in advance by service names, brand and queries with a city.
- Crawl statistics: the response codes the robot receives. Frequent server errors often point to weak hosting.
- Security and violations: the first place to look after a sudden traffic drop, especially if malicious code is possible.
Requesting a recrawl without wasting the limit
If you updated a price list, launched a new service page or fixed an error on a product card, you can send the URL for a recrawl so the robot visits sooner. There is a daily limit, so prioritise pages that bring leads: the homepage, service sections and fresh landing pages used for ads.
A recrawl does not repair a messy site. If a page loads slowly, is blocked in robots.txt or returns an error, resubmitting changes nothing. Fix the cause first, then ask the robot to come back.
Common mistakes
The first is connecting Webmaster and forgetting it, while alerts go to the inbox of a developer who left the project long ago. The second is moving to a new domain or protocol without redirects, leaving the old address unattended in the dashboard. The third is skipping the region, so a Tashkent company shows up weaker than it could.
The fourth is watching positions only. Positions move around, but a sharp fall in indexed pages or a spike in server errors needs action the same day.
If your site is still being built, plan these basics from the start: clean URL structure, redirects, a sitemap, a correct robots.txt and fast hosting. At markdev we build turnkey websites with exactly this in mind, so you are not untangling dozens of errors in Webmaster and Search Console after launch. If you want your current site reviewed or a new one discussed, get in touch and we will suggest where to begin.
FAQ
Is Yandex Webmaster free?
Yes. You only need a Yandex account and a way to verify ownership of the site: a meta tag, an HTML file or a DNS record.
Do we need it if we only target Google?
It is still worth connecting. It costs nothing, and Yandex data can reveal technical problems and help you reach Russian-speaking users.
How soon will my site appear in Yandex after verification?
Nobody can promise exact timing. Add a sitemap, check robots.txt and request recrawls for key pages, but speed depends on the quality and availability of the site.
What should I do if Yandex traffic suddenly drops?
Open Diagnostics, Pages in search and Security and violations. Compare the dates of site changes with the date of the drop and look for server errors or accidental blocking from indexing.
