What people mean when they search for Google Sites
The search usually hides one of three intentions: building a free page with Google's own tool, getting an existing website to show up in Google search, or simply browsing for sites. The first two belong to business owners, so those are the ones we will cover.
They share one point. A website is not a goal in itself. A customer in Tashkent, Samarkand or Namangan needs to find you, understand the offer and get in touch. Choose the tool by that outcome rather than by how quickly it can be launched.
What Google Sites does well, and where it stops
Google Sites works with an ordinary Google account. You assemble blocks by dragging them, pages live in the cloud, and you can connect your own domain and embed a map, a Google Form, a spreadsheet or a video. Someone with no technical background can learn it in an afternoon.
The price of that simplicity is a set of limits that show up once the site has to sell:
- no real online store: a cart and payments through Click or Payme are not available out of the box
- limited SEO control: fine-tuning titles, markup and page speed is not possible the way it is in a full CMS
- integrations with a CRM, ad pixels and custom scripts are restricted
- design depends on templates, so standing out from similar sites is hard
- Russian and Uzbek versions have to be maintained by hand as separate pages
- the site is tied to an account, which becomes a problem if the person who owns that login leaves
When a free builder is enough
There are cases where Google Sites is perfectly sensible. A private tutor or craftsman can put up a page with services, photos of past work and a phone number. An event organiser can publish a temporary page with a programme and a map. A team can keep an internal handbook. Another sound use is testing demand for a new service before investing in a full website.
Once you plan to run Meta Ads or Google Ads, compare channels by cost per lead and improve the page based on data, the builder will soon feel too tight.
How a website gets found on Google
The platform matters less than people think. Google discovers pages through links and sitemaps, then judges how well each page answers a query. The basic routine is the same for any site:
Indexing is not instant, and nobody can honestly promise a specific ranking. A trustworthy contractor tells you that at the start.
- verify ownership of the site in Google Search Console
- submit a sitemap and check that the pages you care about are open to indexing
- give every page its own title and description built around a real customer query
- write in your audience's language: Russian and Uzbek versions widen reach
- make sure the site loads quickly and works well on a phone
- for a physical location, create a Google Business Profile with address and phone number
When you need a custom website
The signals are practical. You pay for ads and want to see which page brings leads. You need payments through Click or Payme. Enquiries must flow into a CRM or a Telegram bot. You need two languages. The site has to connect with your Uzum or OLX listings and your Instagram account.
The cost of such a site is built from the number of pages, design from scratch or from a template, how many languages, integrations with payment systems and a CRM, analytics setup, copywriting and ongoing support. Ask a contractor to itemise those lines in the estimate instead of quoting one lump sum.
Where to start
Answer three questions. What should a visitor do: call, message you on Telegram, pay? Where will traffic come from: search, ads, social media? How will you know the site pays for itself? If the answers are still vague, begin with a simple page and analytics, and move to a full build once you have data.
At markdev we build turnkey websites and set up analytics from the start, so results can be checked in numbers. If you are unsure whether a builder will do, describe your task and we will tell you plainly whether a separate project is justified.
FAQ
What is Google Sites?
It is Google's free website builder that runs on a Google account. It suits simple pages, business cards and internal projects, but it does not replace a full website with payments and integrations.
Can I use my own domain with Google Sites?
Yes, a custom domain can be connected. It does not remove the other limits, though: SEO, integration and design options remain narrower than on a full website platform.
How do I get my website to appear on Google?
Verify the site in Google Search Console, submit a sitemap, write titles and text around real customer queries and make sure the site works on mobile. How long it takes to appear cannot be stated in advance.
Is Google Sites suitable for an online store?
It is not built for full selling with a cart and Click or Payme payments. For a store, choose a platform or custom build where payments and order tracking are set up natively.
