Why a Yandex Business chat matters to local customers
A person opens your listing and types a quick question: are you open today, do you have this in stock, can I book a slot. The message lands in your Yandex Business account or app, you reply, and the conversation goes on. Availability and notification options depend on your listing settings and region, so check the dashboard before planning around it.
In Uzbekistan many people are used to messaging rather than calling: Telegram, Instagram DMs, OLX and Uzum chats. Someone at work or on the move will rarely dial a number, yet will happily send a line of text. The chat removes that barrier and turns a map listing from an address into a way to start a sale.
Should you enable it? A simple test
The rule that matters most: a chat nobody answers is worse than no chat. The customer waits, gives up and writes to the next business on the map. Enable it if these are true:
- someone can reply throughout the working day;
- your customers ask routine things such as availability, hours, bookings and location;
- you want enquiries from people who avoid phone calls;
- there is a clear place to pass the lead on: a booking log, CRM, the technician or a sales Telegram group.
Who replies, and how they get notified
Name one owner for the chat: the salon administrator, the shop manager, or the founder in a small workshop. Multi-branch businesses need one person per location. Make sure notifications reach that person’s phone, not an unchecked inbox, and that someone covers holidays and sick days.
Test it yourself. Message the chat from a personal account and see who is alerted and how soon. The most common failure is simple: the chat is on, and nobody sees the messages.
Reply speed and after-hours messages
People writing from a map are often choosing right now between several nearby options. A reply half a day later is no reply. During working hours think in minutes, not hours, and treat evening messages as the first task of the morning.
If your settings allow it, add an automatic out-of-hours note such as “Thanks for your message, we will reply when we open.” It does not replace a human answer, but it takes the edge off the wait.
Reply templates that still sound human
Prepare drafts for repeat questions, then adapt each one. A template is a skeleton, not a finished message. Keep the tone polite and short, in the customer’s language, Russian or Uzbek, and end with a next step: booked, see you then, please confirm the model.
- availability: confirm the exact model or size and offer an alternative;
- hours and location: today’s hours plus a landmark and entrance description;
- booking: free slots and how the customer confirms;
- payment: cash, card, Click or Payme;
- price: if you do not publish it, explain what it depends on and offer to clarify details.
Moving to Telegram without losing the lead
Sometimes Telegram is simply easier, for photos, files or a longer discussion. Offer it, do not insist. Answer the basic question in the chat first; replying “write to us on Telegram” to a simple question can cost you the customer.
Avoid asking for card details, arguing with a customer, promising “ready tomorrow” without being sure, or criticising competitors. If nobody can staff the chat at all, switch it off and show your phone number and Telegram handle clearly instead.
Measure results and connect it to SEO
Keep a simple log: how many enquiries came through the chat and how many turned into bookings or sales. After a couple of months you will see whether the channel deserves more time. Once a month, read a sample of conversations to spot weak answers and tone problems.
The chat is one part of how you appear on maps; your listing, reviews, website and search rankings work together. If you want enquiries from search as well as maps, markdev can help with SEO optimisation in Uzbekistan and with a clear process for handling incoming messages. Tell us about your task and we will discuss where to start.
FAQ
Does every business need to enable Yandex Business chat?
No. If nobody can reply during the working day, leave it off and show a phone number and Telegram on the listing. An ignored chat hurts more than no chat.
How can I tell whether the chat brings customers?
Log each enquiry and mark whether it became a booking or sale. A basic spreadsheet is enough to judge the channel after a couple of months.
Can I move a customer from the chat to Telegram?
Yes, if it suits them or they need to send photos or files. Answer the question in the chat first and suggest Telegram as an option.
